OT- What Brand Filters?

Here"s a question for you guys and girls:

What brand oil, air etc. filters do you use on your auto"s, pick up"s and tractors?
For years I purchased premimium Purolator filters, always get 225K - 350K miles on my auto"s and pick ups, use Baldwin on my tractors and equipment.
Are the more expensive premium filters worth it?
Have always avoided the NAPA, Big A Auto Parts filters.

Baldwin is good. NAPA has their filters built by Wix which has a very good reputation. I wouldn't avoid them if you can catch them on sale that NAPA has about twice a year.

I have looked at cut-aways of almost all the major filter brands. The NAPA Gold are actually a well-made filter. More pleats than most, very good filter media, and steel wire mesh reinforcement.

One other thing. Not to be nit-picky, but didn't Big A go bankrupt about 10 or more years ago?

Just about anything but fram. I just bought a bunch of WIX filters, but we'll also stop at the dealer if we need one. Wix, hastings, purolater, are all good.

Always use NAPA Gold filters, made by Wix, on my trucks and tractors. Just picked up a few last week during there spring filter sale.

I buy all my filters every year in march. CarQuest has a big sale, 40-60% off. Like Napa, they are also made by Wix. I used to spend around $800 a year in filters. This year it cost $375 with the special sale. As far as oil I use the manufacturer specified oil weight in everything. I am not brand specific but I tend to use either Rotella or Cenex in the equipment and Kendell or Cenex in the autos.

Yea, I have one or two Big A filters left also. I have a Big A heavy duty sock filter that goes on my 1950 IH pickup. There was a Big A part store around here that got gobbled up by Car Quest. That's why I remember Big A. Of course, then they switched over to NAPA.

Wix filters, Conklin oil in my antique pullers and personal vehicles. Sell Quaker State and Rotella in the shop. Funny; Pennzoil and Quaker State used to be enemies around here. Now they are both a part of Shell.

I, and most of my customers use either NAPA (made by WIX) or actual WIX filters. Even then, if you'll look, NAPA also carries some of their air filters that are Donaldson, etc. If you use OEM CAT filters they were once made by Donaldson, but some years back started having them made by Baldwin. In the end the main thing is use a find a good quality filter, like WIX, etc, (cut one open and check it out when you change it if you have any questions about quality) and stick with it. If you do that, and keep your equipment serviced regularly then you should be OK.

Wix(CarQuest) for vehicles and usually OEM for the tractors. I don't have to question the quality of the OEM, and its cheaper.

I have found the NAPA filters to be more expensive than the OEM from New Holland. Are they supposed to be better?

i use carquest,[wix] and do all my own oil changes, even do the wife's hot rod , just so nothing ends up with a cheap filter or dry started, because "goober" at the quick stop is too lazy or unskilled to fill the filter with oil before installation, some of my stuff is very high mileage and never had a oil related problem,

Eric, How many weeks are you leaving a vehicle with someone to change the oil and get it "dry"? I had the pan off a motor a couple years ago and it took me two weeks to chase down the right bearings, and it was still dripping plenty of oil on me when I was putting the new ones in.

I don't know about the NH side of CNH, but here's some opinions about CIH filters:

I've used NAPA Gold for years with no problems. Spring and Fall farm days are the only time to buy NAPA filters here. Usually 35+% off of regular prices.

I'll use NAPA but prefer Fleetguard. Used to run Rotella and Pennzoil, but had to use some valvoline on a pipeline boot one day and couldn't turn the nuts down on the (clean and new) bolts, so I've switched to that. Or NAPA oil, it's Valvoline in a NAPA bottle.

A while back I checked the website bobistheoilguy.com. There are a lot of experts posting there and I came away with the impression that for the money, the best value oil filter is the Purolator Gold 1. On oil, they say it depends on many things as to a suggestion on what kind, weight or brand to use.
