Ridiculous lawsuit?

yep- there are idoits in this world everyday thinking they can win the lottery by sueing someone for their stupidness..

Frivolous lawsuits such as this one don't mean much in the larger scheme of things. Anybody has the right to sue just about anybody else for just about any reason; that doesn't mean their suit will get to first base. Sounds like the judge threw this one out immediately.

A bigger problem is when a frivolous lawsuit is successful in court. Detroit juries are famous for their lavish judgments, a fact that has made Geoffrey Feiger and other local attorneys very wealthy.

I would agree with her, if she owed less on the car than the value of the gas in the tank. Her creditor is the injured party, and that's what prompted the reposession.

I was on a jury one time where the defendant was a 78 year old lady who had rear ended a couple in their 40's. The claim was to pay damages for "lack of performance" after the wreck. Turns out that both vehicles were driven away from the scene. No visible or repairable damage on the 3/4 ton truck the old lady hit with her Pontiac 6000. She had to replace a headlight. We were told that she had to be found guilty of causing the collision intentionally and so on and so forth. It was brought out that things were just "not the same" in the bedroom after that mean old lady hit them on purpose. I'll let you guess how that came out...

The BS lawsuits will be greatly reduced when a law is passed that makes the Defendant receive their full attorney costs paid for my Plantiff if they lose. This would jam up the works of those scummy lawyers.

That"s the way it is in just about every industralized country in the world except the US but you will not see it here because the nnalert are in the hip pocket of the trial lawyers and have been there for decades.

At the risk of being flamed , I always find these , "Blame the Lawyers" discussions very entertaining. Have you ever thought about who returns these allegedly "ridiculous' verdicts ? I'll even give you three guesses. Not Lawyers ! Not even Judges ! All those who guessed a jury of your peers can pat yourself on the back. Why does the American Public suffer from such delusions ? And before someone jumps in and blames , "The screwed up legal system" you might consider who makes the laws. Voters and the officials they elect. OK , let the flaming begin !

BillinCentralMo,
Yup, it's the juries who are to blame along with the ambulance chasing lawyers. MarkB hit the nail on the head about Detroit juries. A relative is a claims manager for a local medical institution and spends a lot of time in Metro Detroit courthouses. Wayne County (Detroit) is the worst. It's a "lawsuit lotto" mentality there. He's had juries completely ignore the evidence (or lack thereof) and award hundreds of thousands of dollars. He had one juror tell him that the "poor" plaintiff deserved the money from the "rich" company and he hoped that when he filed a lawsuit someday a jury would do the same for him. It's the entitlement, redistribution of wealth mentality that is pervasive in this country and endorsed by the man in the White House and nnalert everywhere.

BTW, years ago, a teen girl rode her bike down a driveway right in front of my car. Was pinned underneath. I pulled her out. Police said she was 100% at fault and I wasn't ticketed. I got sued along with a number of companies associated with building a house on the street. Girl's attorney (real scumbag lawyer) said the building materials stacked behind the curb blocked my vision of the girl. In the deposition, policed testified I was not at fault nor were the building materials in the road or in an area that would affect anything. Didn't go to trial because everyone's insurance company settled all together for a couple of hundred grand. They said it was cheaper than risking a larger amount at trial. Afterwards, the girl's parents were known to brag that their daughter's college education was now secured with some left over for their retirement nest egg.
