vent on Ebay

I have been buying items on Ebay and paying with paypal for my tractors for several years. Their items are often the best buys out the. Now--- I decided to sell a sewing machine for my wife on Ebay. What a hassle this has been. First off I listed the item for sale with the rules that apply. Then 2 days later I get a notice it has been pulled for some reason , please call this number. After calling and answering two question that were included in the listing, I was reinstated. Then after several days the item sold and now it starts. Laady cant pay for several days because her parents are buying it and are in Hawaii. Then she wants to make some sort of payment to my credit card. Then she pays and I ship. Costs 95$ to ship and pack OK. Then notice from Ebay the want 9% of selling price plus shipping Then Pay pal wants 2.8 % of sale plus shipping. When item arrives, custome claims items short in box. WE know better but the she wants $ 90 to purchase the items she claims are short. So, since it's our word against hers, I send another $92. Then Pay want another 2.8 % of that and will keep my money for 21 days because I haven't sold on Ebay before. End total= sold Item for $685 will end up about $400. What a deal. Never again for me on Ebay

Precisely why I refuse to deal with either Feebay or ScamPal.

If that's the only way to get something I'm looking for, I'll do without.

I never sell on ebay anymore fees are reticules. I use paypal but only in conjunction with a CC never out of my bank acct.

Can you do better than that at a Pawn shop? How about on a consignment sale, will they take less than eBay or PayPal costs? I don't think so.

I took a 3 year old TSC Rotary Cutter to a consignment sale 3 weeks ago. It sat out for 3 years, had dents all over it, & sold for $600. The auction Company took 10%. That's probably less than Ebay, & paypal fees would have been; with no hassle from the buyer!!! Also didn't expect to get $300 let alone $600. A new one is $1100. Bottom line was no Hassle!

You should have just told her to send it back ,then once you get it you will issue a full refund. Things that are heavy, bulky, or don't fit in a USPS flat rate box can be a hassle. There is a box on eBay you check that reads Paypal only. This is good to check.

Me too. I still buy new items with a good buy it now price and free or low shipping. Still good values to be had this way.

I gave up selling mainly because of the paypal only rule. Alot of the things I sold before were large and I just took cash upon pickup.

The fees now will eat up any profits.

I hear you, my sympathies. For the small seller Ebay is discouraging, so much work and hassle then the fees poof most of the profits. I guess that"s the cost of reaching a national audience. It doesn"t help that Ebay is a defacto monopoly and isn"t shy about exploiting this fact. I"m kind of surprised that as a buyer I can get hard-to-find items at good-deal prices and, in most cases, very fast shipping and service. I guess they"re doing something right and haven"t driven away all of the sellers. Probably for the frugal seller Craigslist is the way to go but you lose the national audience

I used to both buy off of, and do some selling on Ebay. Over the years all I can say is the whole deal has "grown" from a really good thing for all parties involved into nothing more than a profit making machine for the owners of Ebay, with both the buyers and sellers taking the hit. Oh well, like anything else that's really too good to be true when it first comes out, it never stays that way because greed almost always gets in the way.......

To bad you didn't read the post on here a few weeks ago about scam-bay. You would have not wasted your time. I gave up about three years ago.
