In many post ,as in the one on trust and Power of Attorny. Use of A&U OP, and other post using one letter for a word. It's confusing for me and I think many others. Not trying to be harsh, but H system FT (fluid in tires I guess) seems like someone wants to use a code. Seems to me if whatever is important enough to write about, it should be important enough to spell the word. Yes some may say or think don't read the post if one does not like it. My thought is its a public forum for all to read. Few days ago a post talked about using u as You in ads and tx me or c m I think meaning call me. Ok I'm and old fart not agreeing with a long text rather than simple phone call and other I suppose shortcuts. Noticed today at local store how computer checkout was much longer than old way. I will take another pain pill , have cup of coffee and shutup.

Seems more and more folks can't spell anymore and I have to wonder if all the shortcuts for texting isn't part of the problem? I agree it's annoying trying to figure out what all the new acronyms mean... if you can even call them acronyms?

Cell phones have tiny buttons for keys, and have lead led to a lot of shorthand. As well as texting while driving....

But I hope no one tries to spell out SOL as used in the thread below. :) :) :)

I too can not get 1/2 of these things. They are right it is a type of shorthand and I never could get that either!!! About as bad as the military where we had a abbreviation for everything!!!!

I agree, but my wife showed me how to google the acronyms, HTH was one I couldn't figure out, she googled it and it means hope this helps. now I look for them and use google to find what it means so what used to agrivate me now is fun LOL.

My wife and I are only 25 she has her masters in English education and teaches 9th grade. Yesterday she wrote something on the white board in cursive and found out her class can't even read or write cursive. And you should see some of the essays she gets back in amazes me just how bad penmanship really is these days with texting and instant messaging.

I bugs me when people refer to transmissions as a tranny, let alone all the other abreviations. One that gets confusing on tractor forums is the word hydro when talking about hydraulic systems. Any mechanic working around tractors, combines etc. (now that one I let slide) automatically thinks of hydrostatic drives when the word hydro is used.

I heard on public radio the other day there are schools that are not teaching cursive writing anymore. I was stunned.

My wife used to be a teacher and to make extra money would mark exam papers in her spare time.In the last few years, more and more papers were written using text-message abbreviations. The instructions from the Examination Board said "do not mark these, if the child cannot write and spell correctly, NO MARKS."
Seems to me, that educational sytems are failing our children; if they cannot spell and write a proper letter, how are they to get on? Phil

I was an electrical engineer and my stepson is a civil/environmental engineer, when he first starting working he couldn't believe that writing was one of the most important parts of the job. Good writing skills helped him get better jobs. Today with computers, email, and fax that is how its all done.

Yet, were not allowed to point out the spelling and grammar errors of our fellow forum members as that is considered rude.

They cry, "WHO CARES AS LONG AS THE POINT GETS ACROSS?"

These are the same people who wail and moan because cursive writing is no longer being taught in classrooms. These are the same people who throw tantrums when they see acronyms, shorthand and TXT-speak.

I can't make sense out of it.
