John B.,

Great photo!

Upon reflection... maybe the good 'ol days weren't totally good. :)

I think I like my oven better.

One thing I noticed, that the
equipment/appliances men and women had to work with wasn't always nice looking but they, the folks always dressed nice...

Sweet that is one of the yuppy trends in Indy these days having old stoves and fridges rebuilt for actual use. Some of those require big bucks to rebuild!

I am not sure but the thing on the wall looks like one of those wooden drying racks that open up for drying clothes or towels next to the stove. They had a lot of cool gadjets then.

Sweetfeet, I remember when my grandparents got electricity on the farm. My aunt and her husband lived in the same house, and she bought a new electric range. My Grandmother wouldn't use it. She cooked with the old cob & wood range and could out-cook, and out-bake anyone I know. It is all in what you grew up with. Wish I could get some of her buns and bread today. Oh.....and the pies she could bake!

The wood stove in my Grandparents house was about 5Ft from the wall. In winter this is where my grandma hung her clothes to dry on something made of wood that looked like an umbrella with no cloth. This was also where the wash tub was put in winter to take a bath. Oil lamps, radio that used a big truck battery, 4 kids in a bed, posts like this bring back fond memories.

Is that on oil can she is basting with?

I'd baste her turkey. It's a big turn on if a girl knows how to cook.

Old Popper,
My dad (85) says he remembers getting electricity too... and how wonderful electric fans were once they got one. Said before electricity, when it was hot - you just laid in bed and prayed for a breeze. LOL.

I cannot imagine life before electricity!

The Red,

Yes, I have looked at ads for retro stoves and also claw-foot tubs. Would love to have both... BUT very spendy!

I have an old woodstove for sale. Not as glamorous as this one, but has all the parts. It's a real woodstove, that has an oven and cooktop.

They don't make them like this anymore. Wish I could find a buyer who wants a real thanksgiving turkey with that crispy woodsmoked flavor... I love the old stuff.

If only my township will reconsider the proposed ban on woodburning for heat and food!
