Here is a replica of 1928 John Deere D on steel. That was my fathers first tractor. The only one we had on steel. He had four other D's on rubber in his lifetime. I was guided with memory and pictures. Started with the wheels from an auction with the idea of making a lawn ornament. Had an old rider mower with engine and trans so I made it driveable. My grandson plans to drive it in the parade at the tractor show in Pawnee OK the first weekend in May

Very nice! How long did that take you to build?
Getting the younger ones involved is a blessing in itself.

That's really nice.....lots of work.
Do I see a tomato juice can for the air cleaner bottom and another one for the pulley?
I use one on my tractor for a cup holder. I painted it the same color as the tractor. Makin' do with what we've got...(;>) I like it.

Very nice, and it's easier to haul to parades than a big one. When I was on the harvest in your neck of the woods I'd occasionally ask an old farmer what was the first tractor he drove. I usually was a D. Jim

Unless the parade is on turf then I don't think he will be in long with those mower wheels, The lugs even tho small will be constantly bouncing it around and I think the parade organizers will if on blacktop drive pull hin out because of pavement dammage. now if you has the mower wheel with the center rib you would not have that problem. What you need to do before then is make a set of road bands like would have been made for the orignal tractor and then you will have no problem with the lugs causing bounce or road dammage. Better to take care of it now than have him embaresed at parade time. And those rear wheels are from a McCormick tractor version of the horse drawm mower in the model 6, 7 or 9 models due to the width and it would have been a 7' cut mower. The standard wheels the lugs on both sides of wheel would have been same length. Those wheels if from the 7 or 9 mower are a hundred fifty dollar each wheel.

PlashOK,
Really, really neat!!

Wish I had the skills... I would make our Cub Cadet into a Farmall Regular.

Thanks for your concern for the lugs on the streets. I don't plan to be in any parade like that. The wheels are all John Deere as they have the cast numbers and the JD cast in them.
