These weigh cows were stolen from the Salem, MO sale barn last night. Here are the surveillance photos released from the sheriff's office. If you recognize this crook, please give the sheriff's office a call at: 573- 729-3241

I don't intend to hijack your thread but I will offer this up as evidence that the way we treat criminals has changed alot over the years:
In "The Cattlemen", by Marie Sandoz, she tells of cattle rustlers being caught in the act of stealing cattle. How were they punished? They were beaten, and for each rustler a beef was killed and skinned. The thief was then rolled up tightly in the hide, still alive, and set out in the heat of the day. The hide would slowly shrink, suffocating the criminal. They were left to die this way, with the brand of the hide facing up as a deterrent to others.
We had a local guy go to prison recently for stealing cattle in our area, but I think people would think twice about stealing if the risk of harsh punishment were higher...

Thought they finished them off much quicker - hanging, or shooting. Anyway, hope they catch these perps. Seems there"s a camera everywhere nowadays, cattle can"t even have any privacy!

Have they caught him yet? Posting on here is not a bad idea, but local exposure is more likely to catch him. There is a limited number of people with the expertise and equipment to steal cows, and I bet somebody is already saying, "Y'know, that looks like old so and so" and mention that to local cops.

Don't know why they would break in and steal them from a sale barn. There is a new legal method going around.
Go to a cattle auction buy a truck load and give the seller a hot check. Haul the cattle out of state and then file a bankruptcy on the farm. Cannot go get them. Sheriff will block you from getting on farm. Cannot sue to get them back and by the time the lawyers and judges get the money extracted there so old they will have lost the front top teeth. Add up what 12 $3000 to $4000 what is being lost legally.
