power take off

You can run the pto in a turn. Most machines if the driveline is set up properly you can turn until the rear tractor tire is against the implement tongue and still have the pto running. Heavy loads or shock loads will cause problems in sharp turns.

There should be no need to BUUUUUUT, if you are getting a lot of chattering check to see if your shaft is square, and possibly during an earlier repair a PO put it back together out of time.

No.

Gentle turns are better than sharp ones. If the pto sounds a little chattery, don't turn quite that sharp....

Many haybines come with a special U-joint that allows very sharp turns, as often folk want to make square corners cutting hay. Don't know what model haybine you have, this is a bit of a newer idea so wouldn't be on an older cheaper machine.

When you go in and out of PTO, you are using your clutch, etc, which creates wear & tear on a more expensive piece of equipment. I only throw it out when turning 180 degs

no i grew up pulling a hew holland hay bind i got to where i can make a squar turn an d never slow down running around 4 mph now that discbines have come along i make a squar corner at six or seven mph but with newer tractors wityh indepent pto thay can be turned on and off easyon the go just my thoughts

One thing nobody mentioned is look at the owners manual for the piece of equipment you are pulling and see what the recommended distance the hole in your tractor drawbar is to be set from the end of the PTO shaft this will help minimize chattering also.

So the mower keeps the tractor from rolling over?

No... but it's generally not to advisable to make acute right turns with rock rakes. Particularly the Degelman variety. That's usually what makes the final snap on the tractor yolk.

I never turn off the pto when turning a corner with the haybine. Or the baler or swather or the pull type combine. As previously stated check the manual as they usually do specify the correct distance and measurements to set your drawbar.

The drivelines on the haybines and balers are designed to make sharp right turns, you can't turn to the left very sharply without issues though.
