A cousin came to me with this pod today and wanted to know if I knew what kind it was.He found it in some of our grandmothers belongings after she died and we have no idea what kind it is or where it came from,Anyone know? We were thinking that if someone could "Breed" its size into some soybean pods we could all make some serious money at $14 per bushel!

Hey guys,I know its not Catalpa. We have plenty of them here and this pod is at least twice as big and probably more like three times as big as Catalpa. Some of you have mentioned locust tree pods.Do any of you happen to have any pictures of one.If we have them here in central Ga I have never seen one. Thanks for the replies.

Thats the first thing I told my cousin! Reminds me of all the pictures of Jack's beanstalk in the books.

A Catalpa pod will get two feet long but inside it is full of tiny little seeds , each on a wing. No beans or peas.

I'd have said Honey Locust too, but aren't they always deep brown like 36F30' foto. The ones at my place are.

My guess is broad Bean.
Broad Bean - "Aquadulce Claudia" 1702
This variety is universally recognised as being best for an autumn sowing. It establishes itself very quickly and will produce a very early crop. It is white seeded and the pods are up to 23 cm (9 inches) long. Height: 90-100cm (36-40in). 90 days

I know its not a catalpa i have them and i know its not a wisteria i have them too.
I would love to know what it is because i have one just like it. I was moving it last week and dropped it, well it popped open and it has big brown beans inside. I plan to plant it next month and see what it grows.

I"ve got a TRUMPET VINE hedge that has pods like
that, but the seeds inside don"t look like bean
seeds, but more like milkweed seeds

I think you are right! We did a little looking on the net and I think this is the variety or something very close. Our pod just does not look like the locust pod but it is almost identical to the scarlet bean pods we looked at.thanks for the help and all thwe other responses.
