A friends F250 Super Duty, automatic, all of a sudden this morning has reverse but nothing in any forward gear selections. It was fine last evening when he shut it off. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Keith

Check the shift position sensor, mine went bad and it wouldn't shift into second just stayed in first. Good luck

This would be an extreme long shot, but not long ago I had a new Chevy truck that did about the same thing. Shut it off one night, and the next morning it had reverse by no forwards. I backed it into the shop to look under it and just happened to see where a packrat, or mouse or something had chewed some wires by the transmission. Spliced them back together and ran it for years until I traded it. Again, I'm sure this would be a rarity. Bob

Not so much a rarity as one might think! I have seen critters play havoc with wiring and other critical components when I worked at a dealership.

Post the year and engine, someone on here might have enough experience to do a trans specific diagnosis. Some of the new computer controlled electronic stuff is finicky but sometimes it's a solenoid that goes out and it can be repaired relatively cheap- like less than $500. No slippage heat or smell on the last run it could very well be a control problem like a wire, sensor or solenoid

Doubt it is an electrical issue. You can unhook all the connectors to the transmission and you should still have a forward and reverse engagement.

Have him start the truck and cancel OD with the switch on the end of the shift lever. If it hops into gear then the OD roller clutch is blown. Which means it has to come apart.

That neutral safety switch on the drivers side that others have mentioned can cause some wierd stuff. A scan tool would be a real help. Not so much for the codes as for the data. That switch can do some wacky things and not throw a code.

Forward clutch pack came apart because snap ring came out. Had a 97 with E4OD and it did same thing. Had to back it and trailer mile and a half back home.

That was my first question to him, and he to his wife. Both He and I are at work about 120 miles from home and the truck is at home with his wife. The truck is a 2000 F250 4X4 gas, sorry don't know which engine size it is. Thanks all of you for the help, he's going to go home this evening & check it. Keith
