What are these cultivator adjustments for?

I posted pictures of these adjustments over on the 9N/2N/8N
forum and didn't want to double post them.
Anybody know what these little gems are for? Poke

Looks to me like mounts for a fertilizer side dresser attachments. Do not have them on my cultivators, both a Ferguson and a Dearborn And my books do not list the rolling guide for the Ferguson cultivator so it must be newer books than I have. The correct fenders just fasten with one bolt and for changing height you do not have to remove any bolts or use a wrench.

Thanks Leroy, the pipe nipple made me think of a dresser of some sort.
I just don't see any way to attach it. Could be buried in paint I guess.
I'm planning on using it for a large garden, not farming, so it really won't
make a lot of difference in my application.
Curiosity has just gotten the better of me!
