logspliter and tires

We bought a property with about 500 tires . The ones that are not on rims I can get rid of for $1 each but have alot on rims . Has anyone used a logspliter to take them apart or make a atachment to go on the spliter ? Most of the rims it dont matter if I bend them up but there are several that I want to save . I have a lifetime supply of wagon tires !!

Yes I have used a log splitter to break them down, but it didn't work as slick as I thought. I ended up cutting a lot partial way through and having to cut the rest in a jumbled up mess. What I found to be the best was to use a concrete saw with a metal blade to sever the tires right through the rim, the tough ones requiring a second slice on the other side, making the tires fall off in two half moons. Toss the rims in a pile for the junk yard and maybe the salvage money will pay for the saw rental. (if you don't have access to one). It will be money well spent regardless. Especially with 500 tires !!!!

I think you will find the sawzall will give you forearms like Popeye and end up with a lot of bent up blades....don't ask me how I know...

If you have a Metabo and a case of the 1/16" blades you can do it too.

Side note: You will breathe a lot of smoke with the Metabo OR the concrete saw, a nice fan blowing the smoke away is helpful and if not, a good respirator will help.

go to harbor freight and for about 50 dollars buy a manual tire changer. its a lot faster especially if you have so many to do. here is a link.
poke here

Bought some land that didn't have five hundred but did have more than three hundred tires with probably fifty on rims. Did what the other poster suggested, went to Harbor Freight and bought their cheap tire changer. Didn't take long to get the job done. Luckily they had a county wide program that year which allowed you to bring in old tires for free; never have seen anyone offer money for discarded tires. Scrapped the rims along with miles of used fencing. Not easy to find someone that will take and also pay for old rusty fence.
