Over the last couple of years I have been looking for my granddads Oliver 70 he had when I was a kid. Last friday night I typed his name into the computer just to see what I could find. Well one thing lead to another and I could believe what I had found. A family photo of my great grandfather and his father my great great grandfather taken about 1890. I down loaded the photo and printed it off, Saturday mornning I picked up dad to go have breakfest and told him I have something for you. He said what? How bout a picture of your grandfather and great grandfather. He said nobody has a picture of them. Well you do now, And I handed him the picture. As he looked at the photo a tear came to his eye as he said thats my grandpa as a young man and I never knew that my great granddad looked like. He looked at me and ask Ware did you find this? I told him how and he was amazed to say the least. After we ate and were heading home dad as me to stop at the store for a minite. OK. He was in and out in a flash and when we got to the house he said come on in for a bit. We went in and him headed to his room and in a bit he called for me and mom to come in. He had framed the picture and hung it by our other family pictures. He is very happy I found it for him and our family. He said this picture means alot to me, More than a name in a book it makes you feal like your more connected to the past. When I got ready to leave dad came over gave me a hug and said thank you, This means alot to me. I may never find the old 70 but I know that I made dads day. Heres the picture, Dads granddad is top left and his great granddad and great grandmother and there family. It is amazing what you can find these days on the computer. Bandit

Very cool! I have a picture of my grandparents and my great aunts and uncles taken about 105 years ago. I need to get a new printer/scanner so I can show off my family too. My Aunt Rose was a beautiful woman in her 20s. She was my favorite aunt and lived to be almost 103.

WOW! Thank You for doing this, It really brings out more details. One of these days I am going to learn how photoshop works and how to use it. I still cant beleave I found it and someone in my extended family had posted it online (still tring to figuar out who) and how to contact them. Agin Thank You. Bandit

The picture was a bit pixily. If you ever plan to play with photoshop a better scan would be easier and better. No more than I did to the picture it only took me a couple of minutes. The first thing I did is convert the picture to grayscale. Then I increased the contrast and lightened it some. Then all that was left was the crease on the bottom right corner and a couple spots of some faces.

I do family history myself and photoshop nearly every picture before I use it.

Yes he will get a good picture when its all said and done. Right now he is just enjoying the one he has. He was going threw his old pictures and found a photo of his granddad for about his 60s and comparing it to the one I gave him and he said there the same person for sure. His granddad died in 1948 when dad was 10 or 11 so he just could remember him. In the 60s dad took me to see his granddads place in Estill Co KY and I can still remember the place today on Barnes Mountain. There is a lot of family history there on that mountain. Bandit

I am lookig in to family ancestry also. I have an old picture I found of family sitting on my porch and I can't figure out who they are.

I like the old pictures. One place to look for ancestry is the Mormon Church. They kept very good records.

I have been lucky that my ancestors hoarded family data. Both pictures to documents to hand written charts. Oldest paper was of an inlaws birth family ending in 1835 or so. Recently I made a connection that takes my family back to Jamestown Va in 1620-30. My family is Native American from this settlement and have fought in the Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War, Spanish American, WWI, WWII, Korea, and the Gulf Wars. A neat one was in the Civil War I had famiy fighting on both sides, same battle and same capacity. One was in Mississippi's 32nd Infantry Company G, and the other in Illinois' 32nd Infantry Company G. I also had a 5th Great Grandpa who while in the Revolution fought under General George Washington. Curse you always find someone you don't expect. Mine ended up being Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears. Not sure what to think about that yet. LOL
