A good opinion of DST

When told the reason for daylight savings time the old Indian said, "only the government would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket."

You guys can have it, it messes with my system. Also the wife does daycare and has terribly grouchy kids twice a year. If they are gonna mess move it 30 minutes and leave it alone.

I like DST also. It offers more daylight in the later hours of the day when it is useful to me. I however, do not like the change. It takes a good two weeks for me to make the swap each time.

Those of us who work "9 to 5" like it fine- moves an hour of daylight from the AM (where it is of no use to us) to the PM, where we can get some extra stuff done around the place.

Farmers can adjust their workday to conform to daylight- but the rest of us can't, and we welcome the "extra hour".

I agree with this to an extent. I think DST provides more useful hours in today's society, as most people stay up later as opposed to wake up early. Modern society also provides more to those that stay up rather than wake up. Look at how many things are closed at 5am but open at 11pm...

Anyway, despite my fondness of DST, I hate the change. Seriously - it's terrible. They should pick a time and leave it alone. Arizona already does this (They don't observe DST.)

I think it's a good idea. I don't care about the time change, I can change my schdule as I need. But I enjoy the challenge of finding all the clocks in the house, and then trying to figure out how to reset them.

Being a 5th. generation Indiana Hoosier where the time was never changed until 8 years ago, I hate it. Leave my umpty number of clocks alone. Kids were standing out this morning in our neighborhood in the dark waiting for the school bus.

Sheesh, without daylight savings time, you wouldn't be able to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors. Everbody knows that.

I've pretty much just learned to ignore it. It only bothers me if I think about it.

That said, the last few years have been a bit of a pain with it coming sooner than it used to. I've got Board of Review tomorrow at 9AM,and it's gonna be dark when I need to start chores to get there on time.

yep, we used to be right ! the rest of the country was wrong. i hope mitch never runs for pres. glad purdue got stuck with him.

I was always told the summer time is what it was before daylight savings, which is what I like, extra light at night. Maybe thats not right?

Chickens sure love it, there laying there little tail feathers off! 25 eggs today, minus the one some unruly hen ate! Lol

I always did say: If we have to change the clocks, we should change them one minute per day for 60 days. ...maybe even 58 days, make it interesting!

DST is actually supposed to save money.
We all know the folks in charge are experts at that.

I recently read where an elaborate study concluded
that DST was quite an energy waster. What with all
the lights in the morning getting ready for school
and work; schoolbuses running lights to pick up the
kids in the dark, etc.

Do you have a clock in the hen house? What difference would DST make?

Personally I love having the extra hour of daylight. When you work for yourself, and your having to wait an hour or so in the morning, 'wasting daylight' for parts houses to open, etc having the daylight at the end of the day is like money in the bank because it means more workable/billable hours.

Put everyone on GMT and fuggedaboutit!

Then when "X" event is scheduled for 1300Z it doesn't matter where you are on the planet, it's going to happen at 1300Z.

I like the Spring just for the reason of having some daylight to get things done in the evening. Which makes me wonder, why can we just leave it like it is now year round.

Here in Indiana its a big joke, part of state is on cst and part is on est so you can be in one county and go to the next county and lose an hour. When I go out my driveway I lose an hour but I find it when I get back home. Thanks Mitch and good luck with him Purdue.

Just proves some people can find a reason to complain about anything.

In Indiana lots of old timers always wanted to stay on "the Lords time". Surprised me that he even wore a watch.

I was pretty sure I heard Ben Franklin started it to save on the gas street lights back in the day.

It doesn't matter, I'm a "night-owl", having worked Graveyard shift most of my life, I'm up all night and sleep during the day.
