My grandfather also moved from Wisconsin to Hay Springs, Nebraska in 1896 with his mother and step-father to a homestead. We also have a picture of him in front of their sodhouse. Also have one of him sitting in his one room schoolhouse in front of a poster with an American flag and pictures of the president and vice president,William McKinley and Teddy Roosevelt. He moved back to WI when he turned 18

Very cool pic! I was just thinking today, while doing the plowing, just how tough the old timers that built this nation, had to be to do so.

I hate to sound like a copycat, but my ancesters moved to Nebraska from Wisconsin in about the same time too. They started out from by Lacrosse. I don't have any pics, but the origional farmstead is still in the family name.

Great picture--you can just see the pride in building something from nothing in it. Our ancestors were some pretty tough guys. Good to see you back on here.

Must of been a thing to do with the Homestead Act. One of my great grandfathers left the LaCrosse Wis. area in the early 1880s, moved to Decatur, Ne. Stayed til he passed in the 1930s. Funny, because I think of that part of Wisconsin as rather pretty.

Graydon, thank you for sharing all of your family photos and videos, they were great. In one of your photos you show a piece of farm equipment. I've never seen anything like it before, what is it? , what is it used for? . I'm not a Farmer, I'm a Miner but I do have tractors & crawlers. - Doc
