Digging a small trench

50F here in mid Michigan today. Figured it was a good day to tile a low spot. Dug around 100 foot by hand with my tile spade around 30 inches deep. Put down 12 inch tile, got it all finished and covered in 2 hours.

Wish someone would have stopped by to help to make it quicker. I have 2 more tile spades just like this.

That looks more like a spade off a tree spade than a tile or post hole spade. You are a much better man than I am if you can swing that spade all day.

It is amazing how easy it is to dig a ditch through totally waterlogged ground compared to hard dry ground, especially when you are in a panic.

You must have eaten two eggs for breakfast before using that spade....And they must have been goose eggs! We are a bit more mechanically advanced around our parts, and the helper is only 10 years old....

If you was 30 years older, you would figure our a way to hook that onto that small dozer in the background. Chris age 61

almost wish I had that spade here in Rosebush. Sadly Im not sure it would be strong enough to get through this blue clay. It takes 4 days just to dig a post hole with a shovel for example. I broke sod, filled the spot with water for 24 hrs then removed a shovel depth and repeated the process till the hole was deap enough. Glad you had good enough weather, we got off and on rain all day.

Yup, early April fools, doing a little spring maintenance on the tree spades, getting them ready when the frost gets out of the ground.
