went on a small road trip

Took a ride to get a 1500 gallon tank today. I went to Lebenon Nebraska and the fellow lead me down into Kansas past this old church. It was the Lyle Methodist out in the middle of the country. Very nice and well kept. I'll get a picture.

They aren't the best.

Ahhh, warms my soul (and my belly), to think of the "hot-dish" served in the church basement, along with hours of friedship and fellowship. Churchs like this are the very essence of the American culture.

BTW, Husker, we are coming to Nebraska in 2 weeks for a spring vacation. Yeh, I'm gonna be one of those crazy "crane people" in Kearney! We will also spend time in Grand Is, North Platte and Valentine. Want to go get lost in the Sandhills for a while . I have lived in 12 states in my 70 years, from New York to Oregon, to Alabama, but never spent any time in the Great Plains. We will be there 2 weeks, just moseying around, following our nose and looking for adventures!

The town in northern NH where I grew up had an area to the east at the base of the White Mountains, that back then had a sizeable population and a very similar church. The church is still there but not many people any more. Once in a great while a young lady will drive by and decide that she needs to be married in that church.

I don't know how you can stand those cranes but more power to you. You'll like the sandhills, very nice country and them ol boys up there are a different breed. Hardworking, and close knit. I hope you could find a branding going on up there. It'd be something I'd think you would enjoy.

From my experience there is not much meat on those darn crane birds. Hardly worth the cost of shot shells these days

(quoted from post at 11:21:01 03/09/13) I grew up about 15 miles West of that church. In the 20's or 30's Dad's family lived right across the road from it.
There were 2 houses across the road to the north and a brick building that I'm guessing was a school house. There was a slide and swing set next to it. All of those buildings were in well kept shape also. I got my tank picked up out of a shed west of the church about a 1/2 mile on the north side across the bridge.

(quoted from post at 16:33:31 03/09/13) Aw heck, you were only about 20 minutes from me, in Lebanon.
I met the fellow where the gravel road meets the highway on the west side of town. I could have had coffee with you! Fellows name was Eldon H. that I got the tank from. I don't want to spell his last name on here, he may not want to be published!
