Well I only have a few small things to do to finish up getting it back up and going. Got a used adapter plate and a used transmission the transfer case coupler. Have a 4 wheel drive shifter on order along with the linkage for it. Do need to buy 4 bolts for the front drive shaft to be able to hook it up and then I should be done.

Having nice weather. Shop is full of other projects right now so did this in the open air. As for cost I am in around $200 or so maybe a tad bit more. Could maybe have gotten away with out replacing th adapter plate but since it had 2 bolt holes broken part of the way out figured best to replace it and set the old one back just in case

Rich, I am familiar with K10 having a 1980 myself, and I converted mine from an auto to a 4 speed, I think you mentioned using another transfer case and trans from another truck or different brand, kind of forget. I still have a good transfer case, and a bad auto sitting in the weeds, would certainly take a look to see if there was anything useful on it.

I was wondering how you made out with the Spicer hubs, mine had those, but had to be changed, when it was still on the road, I vaguely recall the parts diagram on these, was just wondering how that part of it went.

My ole K10, I replaced a motor with a rebuilt one, in 19 hours flat,( that was one long day) in early '91, then a few years later the auto went, I found a complete manual set up, pedals, trans/trans. case, cross member, was a low mileage rusted out earlier K series truck, for a few hundred, had the flywheel surfaced, new heavy duty clutch, still cannot believe I was able to do this job, mostly by myself, in one of the yards at work, best thing was the parts places and machine shop was nearby, great location to do the job, even if out side, couple of weekends it was done. The bad thing was I drove it out of NJ, up the NYS thruway, kinda just slapped some plates on it, got pulled over in NJ, talked my way out of it, she sits in my yard, what a great old truck, with that drive train I could knock trees over, just line them up with the plow frame, one thing is for sure, that truck may someday rust away, but I will keep that drive train for another. Mine has 270 gears in it, something was a bit off on the speedo when I put that 4 speed trans in it.

270s man I though I had high speed gear in mine with 307s. Took me the better part of yesterday to do the transmission and transfer case install. Sure glad I have the swing boom on the truck and had a piece if channel iron cross the dash and back seat with a 1 ton chain hoist to do the lifting. Got the front drive shaft hooked up about 30 minutes ago and tried it out and found I had to adjust the clutch since it took off when I put it in gear and would not stop till I shut it off. LOL As for the other transmission/transfer case saving it for the boys truck

I remember setting that heavy 4spd and transfer case, together, on the cross member, which I believe is different on an automatic. I used a floor jack, nice when you can rig over head though. I chased down every nut and bolt on this job, even some of the small parts for the clutch linkage. I stuck washers in between the clutch spring coils, and a little at a time got it stretched to hook onto whatever it is, the fun of it was finding ways to solve whatever problems came up, was relatively easy, time consuming, but did seem to work well.

When I was done, it was out of adjustment the opposite way, would not go in gear.

270's and I have the line setting ticket, says right on it, it was good on the highway. Lot of stories could be told about the experiences I had with this truck, got me through many years and it was tired when I got it.

Ya over the years I have learned to work smarter not harder. Took me about 5 days to pull the transmission out and then get it back in. Did what I could when I could and when my body said stop I stopped. Have a project truck that we are slowly working on. 1951 Chev that when all said and done will be 4 wheel drive 4 speed but have a high performance 292 straight 6 in it that should leave a corvette in the dust for at least the first gear but then the corvette should catch up and leave it behind
