If there is anyone with a large tractor near Ft. Wayne you could make some serious money pulling trucks out of the snow and mud. Must be 30 trucks stuck in the mud and snow. Going to be an interesting morning tomorrow.

Odds are the truck stop owner won't even let you on the property unless you're a licensed, bonded, and insured recovery service.

Besides people are too ungrateful these days. If you scratch their bumper doing a good deed, you'll be hearing from their lawyer within a week.

farm tractors are forbidden to enter interstate highways. There are signs listing what vehicles are not permitted on interstates, basically its everything but cars , trucks, semis and motorcycles.

I live about 80 miles from Ft Wayne and get up there quite often but I have never found a truck stop there. Where is it located?

I remember the Blizzard of 78 here in Indiana. I65 looked like a parking lot. The National Guard had Tanks out pulling Cars and Trucks out of the snow!

Kind of strange you never see that-- at least not along major highways. I have a feeling there's a legal aspect to think about?

Back in 1972, we had an early snow storm hit Tonopah, Nevada and it completely iced up the southbound grade going out of town on Hwy.95 - the major North / South route through Nevada. Reports came back into town that there was a major pile-up of trucks on the grade. The towns one tow truck went over the hill, took a look and came back saying "No Way". About two dozen semi's, doubles, & triples jackknifed, on their sides, on top of one another, there was even a set of triples that had completely wrapped the trailers around the tractor - a real MESS.

I put the studs in my mud & snow tires, and put on the tire chains, on my 1967 Toyota Landcruiser and got the tow truck operator and we went over the summit to try to straighten out that mess. I had an 18000 pound PTO winch with 100 feet of 1/2 inch stainless steel aircraft cable on the front of my Landcruiser, and between the tow truck & myself working 15 hours we managed to get most of the vehicles back on the road & in service. I made enough money during those 15 hours to completely pay for my 3 week vacation with money left over.

Was 1972 also, only it closed I-26 from Charleston, SC to Columbia. Had a hard time convincing my parents that I was SNOWED IN at my girlfriends house. They watched the news that night in the West. NC mountains and believed me. Even after they reopened the road, chunks of ice left by the massive wheel loaders just about took the wheels off the front of my old car. ZigZagged nearly 4 hrs on a trip that takes 1 hr 40 mins. in good weather.
