IH 656 Hydro Problem

I have a 656 hydro gas that takes a long time to transition from reverse to forward. It happens more often once the tractor warms up. It goes into reverse no problem every time immediately in high and low. But forward takes a long time either way. Once it"s in forward motion it will go strong all day. I have recently changed the hydro fluid and filter so that shouldn"t be the problem. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to me. That was the first thing I did when I started noticing the problem, filter and fluid changed at the same time. All other hydro fucntions are working great like the bucket, and 3 point.

What Geezer is saying is that there's TWO hydraulic filters. You keep saying you replaced "the filter and fluid". Did you replace BOTH filters? One is a cartridge type and the other is a spin on type.

Sounds like a servo problem to me. Might be low servo pressure, or partially plugged screen or leaking servo cylinders or leaking anchor pin on servo's. There are two hydraulic cylinders that operate the swash plates from zero speed to full tilt forward and full tilt reverse along with ooperating the motor swash plate for full tilt. They are known as servo's and operate by opening and closing an orfice when you move the SR lever forward and or reverse. About all I can tell you from here.

This is '68. I am heading to the local tractor shop to see if they have a manual that will help me with the servo aspect. I will also look at the possibility of the second filter.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across mean, The question just wasn't answered.

Mine is also a 1968 and has a spin on filter on the drivers side on top/front of hydro unit.
