IH 2444 hydrolic control valve

I'm restoring a 1970 IH 2444 but can't get the 3 point to work. Have replaced pump and '0' rings in control valve but no luck. Can't seem to find a mechanic anywhere that knows these old control valves. Help, anyone!!

Your tractor is just an industrial IH 444. The control valves are just about the same clear back to the IH 300 utility.

1) QUIT throwing parts at it until you diagnose the problem.
2) Get a Factory IH repair manual. The IT books do not do a very good job on the hydraulics system on these tractors. The manual for a 444 should show the hydraulic system for your tractor as well. Some one on here may have a manual that they can copy the needed pages for you.
3) Make sure the lift piston is not leaking.
4) Find out if your hydraulic pump is creating pressure/flow.
5) If you do not have flow check the supply to the pump. They are known to suck air and then be a bear to get to bleed/pump.

I know just enought to stay away from IH old utility tractors. I repaired the hydraulics on ONE IH 444 twenty years ago. That cured me. LOL

If memory serves, the 2444 and 504 have similar hydraulic systems. I ran into a strange problem on my 504.

The loader wasn't performing as well as it should- might not lift at all, then lift slowly, etc. So check the oil level, right? There was a plug about halfway down the side of the case, and it even had a 1/4" bolt tapped into it with an O ring. So obviously the fluid level plug, right?

Wrong. I took the pump out, and while I was fussing around with it, I noticed that what I had thought was the fill level plug was level with the bottom of the pump inlet. So I was simply not getting enough juice into the pump. I measured down from the top, and found that filling to 8 inches below the fill port would keep the inlet immersed in oil. End of problem.

Thanks for the input. I don't have it back on the tractor but bench test indicates its going to work. Turns out there wasn't any orifice filter in the control unit and it won't work without one.
