Pressure Washer Purchase Advice

I need to get a pressure washer to clean my new chicken house (24,000 birds). I am being paid well to clean it so I might as well get a good one, I do not need/want a hot water model. I only need one to run two guns a at time, normally one. What are you guys using? What brands should I stay away from? Budget is $4000 or less.

remember if a gas powered one it needs to be running outside the building when you are washing the inside. too many people have died from running gas powered equipment inside large buildings thinking it will not hurt them due to how large the building is.

I don't know about other folks, but the non heated washers I have/had have pump problems and the zinc interconnect corrode which gets in the pump.

I don't know if money will buy you a solution to these problems or if you buy the cheapest you can and replace it or the pump every couple of years. Getting the right pump can be a chore to ensure the interface works. I bought my replacement pumps at Northern Tool on the www.

Many people judge washers by how many psi they maintain. Somtimes high psi is what is needed, like removing loose paint or caked on grease. There is much to gain by using only as much pressure as needed for the job, longivity between rebuilds #1. Yours being a specialized application allows choosing a washer that does the job and doesn't nessarly need to be "a jack of all trades" to be used for various applications. Decide how much volume of water at how many psi is ideal for cleaning the house then call your choice of pump manufactures to have them set up the ideal system for you. I like use Cat Pumps and find thier tech support very good. If you have a small tractor that manuvers inside the house well(the one used to handle litter) don't overlook powering the pump with pto and mounting pump and tank on a trailer or 3 point. 99% of plug and play washers would last 3 times as long and double functional effecience if fitted with an upgraded by-pass and surge tank. Glad to hear somone is getting to use thier houses, last I talked to owners around Pittsburg Tx,they were storing hay in some and tearing others down.

I bought one from my local Case/IH dealer (Case/IH) brand that I really like. It is a gas model with 4000 psi. The cost was $725 and it is a hoss when it comes to cleaning.

Bought a Northern, 11 Hp Honda engine , 4gallons a minute at 3000 psi Comet pump that I used in a farrow to finish hog operation for about 10 years. The hose and gun finally played out but otherwise its works as well as ever. Would buy another in a heartbeat if needed. I did change oil in the pump a few times, and the engine several times. Joe

Look at Mi-T-M pressure washers. They are made right here in Iowa at Peosta, Just west of Dubuque. They make washers sold under many name brands. JD being on of them.

I usually buy the factory reconditioned ones. They get them back with warranty issues and repair them and resale them. The Reconditioned one are usually about 60% of list.

I assume you want electric? Just get as big as you can afford. If you can't find exactly what you want, you can always buy the parts and make what you want. Take a look on NorthernTool. They have a 3500psi 7gpm unit that would provide 2 wands with plenty of power.

Not wanting and not needing are 2 different things. A friend used to run a large poultry with 2 barns and he had to use a hot water washer. He had a Hotsy but then got a Landa and liked it better. You won't get enough pressure with an electric cold water washer. The hot water washers with the heating coil don't put out as much pressure but the hot water/steam sanitizes the barns. I don't know of ones that use 2 guns but you can get a hot water washer/steam cleaner under $4000.00.

What's going on in Pittsburgh? I was over that way once on
vacation visiting Lake of the Pines and Caddo. Seems "Bo" had a lot
invested in that area.

My first trip to Toledo Bend brought me in contact with a bunch of
them too.

Whatever you do, make sure you ave enough water for the pump. MY SIL burnt out my big PW using it at the barn where we have low flow due to sediment in the pipe.

Yeah, I know, gotta replace that pipe. It's on the list right after rebuilding the PW pump.

On September 17, 2009 was announced the purchase of 64% of the shares of Pilgrim's Pride by JBS USA Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Brazilian multinational JBS S.A. the largest meat processor in the world and the largest by revenue. Currently Jbs owns 75% of the company.

As a result, Pilgrim's Pride closed its corporate offices in Texas and Georgia and moved its headquarters to Greeley, Colorado. About 160 of the cuts occurred at the headquarters in Pittsburg, Texas and at a location in nearby Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Other positions losing jobs included sites in Atlanta, Dallas, and Broadway, Virginia.

I have a Alkota that is hot water that I need for machinery. This one has a lot of pressure when it starts. I had 2 hot water Landas before that got stolen that I liked better. The Alkota dealer is much better. My old well just barely keeps up with 1 noozle.
