Which disk is better behind my Allis7020

Looking at a Kewanee 1020 20 foot disk and IH 475 that"s 19 1/2 foot. Which one does the best job? If I leave the wings up which one would cut the cornstalks and milo in my food plots?

The 1020 will pull easier and do a better job. The ih may be slightly more durable but I pulled a 24 ft kewanee behind a 1370 case for years without a single problem.

A IHC disc is superior. With duals a 7020 is plenty big for 19.5 ft. Don't want to go over 6 mph anyway. Look around all the full time farmers will have IHC disc's.

The 1370 is probably 60 horse more then a 7020. I pulled a JD 21 foot disc with my 7020, that was turned up pretty good, and it was EVERYTHING the tractor wanted, but I was in sand.

IH had a pattened disc blade that penetrates better than standard concaved blades. The 475 was a great finishing disc, and parts are readily available.

The IH disc is not superior. With no wheels on the wings it will gouge much more and they don't leave as smooth a finnished surface. As Loren said they may cut a bit deeper so if you have heavy ground that might be a consideration. I have used both and the kewanee will pull much easier and leave a smoother surface. Blades are generic and can be had anywhere as are the bearings. With the wing wheels the kewanee will flex and ride the uneven contours of the fields much better. Also if my 1370 couldn't tear one up in our rocky ground there is not much chance his Allis will.

19.5 behind my 7020 with singles and it plays with it. in my area; you'd want to plant right into standing stalks, but they proly do it different in your area.

I've got two 1020s and they do a pretty good job behind the 4630 and 4640. My only complaint is that they seem to have weak frames. I've also got an IH 470 16' disc and it does a good job too. Just doesn't cut as good as the kewanee, but I'm in ole red clay ground.

I don't know much about kawanee except they aren't in business anymore. if they are similar to a bush hog or krause i think I would lean in that direction. After owning a 475 19' for several years I wouldn't run one if it were given to me and fixed for me when broken. The frame was light and the finish was poor unless you covered the ground 2 times minimally.

I have a 1010 Kewanee and it is a good disc, like the others said the frame could have been heavier built but it makes a nice level seedbed. I disc my stalks in the fall then plant into them in the spring.

Is KEWANEE even still in business??? That would be a major consideration for me. The IH 475 is a great finishing disk. The Kewanee would be heavier so it should cut better. It would come down to price and parts availablity. IF Kewanee is out of business than I would pass on it.

What difference does that make, bearings are available at Napa and such and blades at fleet farm.

yeah well TSC doesn't sell spools, half spools, scrapers and other parts that are brand specific, Shoup has some stuff, sometimes you need the parts today not two days later, JD Seller has a point, "six munce ago I coont spel truk drivr and now I are one"

the reason they don't pull hard is because they don't go in the ground, I pulled one with my 120hp 1955 Oliver years ago in 4th direct

I didn't know you drove truck too, altho it's not surprising, lot's of farmers that have trouble making ends meet turn to truck driving to supplement their income. You should post a pic of your rig, lots of us would like to see it.
