just got watching american pickers, where they went to geo-barris's shop in hollywood and boughta coffin car for 5k..really, he is going to sell somthing with his name/creation on it, when the bat mobile sold for 4m on barret-jackson...yea, these entertaing programs sure are rigged up...lol

I'm with you. I don't have cable but watched "storage wars" once and they hauled a really slick harley engine out of the back of one and there wasn't a speck of dust on anything in there. Anybody elses garage/storage stay that clean?? Baloney! All I ever see in a storage unit is a musty old moth eaten couch and some broken Wall Mart furniture, dirty kids clothes and stuffed animals.

I agree! Those shows are rigged, i think! Some of the junk they pay big bucks for, i have tossed in the scrap truck, over the years!
One of the first picker shows i watched-they dragged a rusty old motor cycle frame out of the woods, and paid big money for it! Come on---that frame wasn't worth a plugged nickel, and they offered $200 for it!
Heck, i have scrapped some things that were lots better shape than things they pay big cash for! I've 'bout give up watching that show!

I stopped at the pickers place in Nashville, Tenn. last summer and I reconized some of the stuff they bought while on the road.
I know it has to be rehersed, if it wasn't why don't they show them picking up a snake or spider or wasp that live in old barns.

I agree that they are scripted and probably rehearsed, but some of those old Indian (and even more obscure) cycle frames and parts bring big money no matter what condition; imigaine if you found an rusted out old Dain chassis in your woods, or a deteriorated old Shelby Cobra front end...they"s still bring the bucks. What bothers me is when ya see "em walkin" all over a bunch of old tractors to get to a rusted out old sign...but I guess they know their market!

what id like to see is what they actuallu end up reselling some of that stuff for, are they making money, and how much do they make doing the show???

That wasn't the greatest Barris car .It was built by his son. That is also not the original Munster Coach. The original was lost in a private collection. Barris built a new one after the show was cancelled. It is two fiberglass bodies spliced together. The popularity of the [two cars-meanig Drag-U-La ] never waned. Both Munster Coaches were Ford powered. The show was cancelled because kids were watching Batman in the same time frame. The cars were just built and the producers had recieved van loads of mail from fans as far as europe to see more of the car. Hence the Munster [first ]movie that featured the cars racing in England. This was a chance for the producers to recoop lost money. Barris designed the Muster Coach in one weekend with help from his wife. He wanted a womans touch because in the script Lilly had the car made for Herman . Barris' wife came up with the interior and the curtains. The producers went crazy for it when he presented it to them at a meeting the following monday. On a sidenote I just picked up the two model kits Munster Coach and Drag-u-la at a store called Hobby Lobby . They are a reissue. I'm a bit of a picker myself and if Mike and Frank ever came to my home I would send them packing. I can't stand they way Frank negotiates. Either pay my price or put it down. When they great the seller the camera crew is already in the guys house but they act like they never met. Let us come and buy all your cool stuff at less than what its worth. No thanks.

I think if you are recalling the pre 1905 Indian frame they paid two hundred and could probaly get five just due to how early and rare it is.The tank was rotted but it could be used for a pattern. If you want to see some Indians there is a new motorcycle museum in Newburgh NY that has 1901 -1930 in a row with several of those early rear fuel tank models . The one curator started buying up Indians in 1941 and now is worth millions.

The Pawn Stars bought a stepdown Hudson for $20,000, and it was recently on Ebay for $18,000 or best offer.

IrvIa, The few storage auctions that I have been to look like the people used it to store their junk in and still the buyers are paying $500 to $600 for stuff they cant see.(almost like going to the casino) Bill

Saw a Pawn Stars episode where they went to Sturgis. Rick buys a restored Honda motorcycle from a local shop. Of course Rick haggles with the guy and gets a deal. RIGHT...first day of Sturgis and this guy is going to take a lowball offer on his bike. Don't get me wrong, I luv Pawn Stars, but some of the stuff is so poorly scripted it looks like a high school skit.

I was at a flea market, talked to a vendor about American Pickers. He said what I thought, in the REAL world you couldn't make a living doing what they show. The REAL money for them is what they get from the show. It IS fun seeing what they find, kind of addictive.
