Got one over on me....

I usually don't get took especially with the old tractor crowd but I did have somebody get the better of me this month. I posted for a hauler on the YT hauling page, to bring a tractor to me in Iowa I bought thru the photo ads, and lined up a guy who seemed pleasant enough over the phone. Of course he wanted a little money up front to pick it up, I didn't think that was out of line so I wired him a third of it. He followed up with a phone call the next day so I thought I was set. Deadline to pick it up has come and gone and he won't return my calls for the past two weeks so I have to assume I got took on it. Worse, now I need to make the run myself as it too late to line up someone else. I guess at least I should feel good he didn't take my money and the tractor too!

I don't know if I should post a warning on the haul page with his name and number or just let it go. What do you guys think?

What you said here was the truth and warning enough for us who have read it. You just never mentioned any names yet.

Post it here and on the hauling site and any other place you can find so another person doesent get took also. You dont ever cend money ahead for hauling.

Not trying to side with a bad guy but you reckon he might be laying in a hospital bed and can't talk or possibly locked in a jail cell for something and cant contact you? It sure seems strange that he would call you AFTER he got your money,All the crooks around here would take that money and be gone in a flash with no other contact what so ever.I have always been one to explore all possibilites before throwing the guilty party under the rug--Just my thoughts.

I bet you had to send upfront money by dollar general card or something. Not US mail!!! This guy is slick!!!! Got me for some money also. Had my friend on pickup end talk to him on time etc. Seller (old friend) talked with him about his truck. Said he lived in his truck!!! Described the truck , convinced seller he would be there on certain date Lied about dropoff . Bet the phon e you talked to him on is now gone. Guess he buys differnt phones so hard to trace.

Sounds like he already got your money. I posted on the hauling site awhile back for my boss. Needed a pallet of stuff hauled from back east to out west. Hauler responded next day and wanted money to go load up. Needless to say he didn't get the job.

By all means post the message! And then, read some of the replies, and investigate the whole site.
Also, you might be able to get your money back, if you get an attorney to help you haul him over the coals. It has been done before, so have at it.
Was it Justin Click who got you? He's one of those crooks, but not the only one!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll post some feedback on the hauling page. We also have a fraud section here in Iowa that deals exclusively with ag fraud. I'll ring up a guy I know down there and give him the report, but as some said all the names and numbers are probably bogus. Some of my old sheriff's office connections might come in hand if I can get him in the system. Chances of him coming into Iowa and getting stopped are pretty slim though.

Bad thing is it really puts the burn on an honest fellow who's just trying to offset some fuel cost. Makes all of us look like crooks.

Thanks
