O/T Went to the Doctor

I went to the doctor last Thursday she said my ears needed to be flushed but recommended doing it after my head cold was gone.
Well rather than wait that long I stopped by our local health food store on my way home and bought some ear candles. I waited until today to use them and now my ears feel much better.
They look like a giant drinking straw. You insert one end in your ear and light the other end with a match and let it burn down until it's about 2.5" left. Then grab it with a wet rag. I don't know how they work but they sure clean out your ears. Has anyone else used ear candles?

The wicking action, just like soldering copper pipe.
Put peroxide in a ear with eye dropper, then turn head over and dump out when peroxide quits fizzing. Do once a week.

John, I like your pictures and nightly themes. Thanks Mark

Nope. But I do some business in China occassionally, where you can get a good "ear digging" for about 5 dollars. Amazing how far a dollar goes there!

It's so nasty but so good.

One place I went to, you have a good soak in a hot tub, then kick back in a big comfy chair watching tv you can't understand, sipping a cold beer, and get a fantastic foot massage, followed by a solid back massage.

(dont' worry - all above the board).

Then you can get your toenails trimmed by some guy with a very sharp knife. You just have to trust him.

Then order up an "ear digging". A pretty girl comes in and sits in the chair with you and spends about half an hour digging junk that dates from the early 70's out of your ears.

She goes WAY in, like she's scraping your brain. But knows what she's doing - but still very nerve wracking.

(I think she pulled a set of car keys out of my right ear)

Really really nasty what comes out but you'll walk out of there 5 pounds lighter, hearing like superman.

I've never tried ear candles but I think i'll wait for my next trip instead.

(did superman have super hearing? or am I confusing him with the six million dollar man?)

I'm glad you enjoy the pictures and nightly features. It's hard to think of a feature everyday, I feel like the housewives when they say, "I don't know what to fix the crew for lunch any more". LOL...But with the help of many like yourself who enjoy the feature come up with some great suggestions. Haven't turned any down yet.

I think you'll find a better way is to pour hydrogen peroxide in your ear, let it boil for a minute or two, then flush it out with warm water using an ear syringe. Don't have to worry about setting your hair on fire.

John,
You haven't bought in on that latest must have, for just $10.95? The ear vac comes with 8 color coded tips for each member of the house, BUT WAIT, there is even more if you call now!! LOL

Never heard of them. The doctor washed my ears out with a huge syringe when I was about eight years old. Never again. Didn't hurt but sure didn't feel good at the time.

I had it done at the Dr. once with a syringe and I think warm water. One ear hurt because the nurse pushed the water in really hard. A few years later I had a problem but saw an ear wax removal kit in the drugstore. It had an ointment to loosen the wax and a rubber bulb similar to a syringe to flush the ear out with warm water. It worked just as good as going to the Dr.

It is easier to push a cloth right through with the handle of a wooden spoon and just pull it back and forth.....cleans both ears at once also....Just remember to pucker up your brain before doing it!
LOL.....Sam

Three or four times a year it gets hard for me to hear. The wife used very warm water and a syringe that came with an ear cleaning kit. (My daughter does it now) Sometimes I will put a drop or two of sweet oil, (Basically olive oil) in my ears for a day or two to soften the wax.

You make the mistaken assumption any of us still have hair! :D

I found out the hard way not to put any flushing fluid in my left ear. Years ago I had a welding spark drop into it releasing the pressure in the drum. Talk about a splitting ear ache for a few hours.

After a couple of very painful ear infections while on vacation due to going swimming, I learned that I need to clean my ears periodically. My left ear tends to build up wax far faster than the right. I have used an ear syringe for probably thirty years. Two shots of warm water almost always does it, and the really important thing is to follow it up with a couple drops of alcohol to dry the water, in order to prevent swimmer's ear.
