old sled with runners

I got an old sled in the garage with the metal runners. Grandboys want to go sledding but I cannot remember what we used to rub on the runners to make em slide better.

We always rubbed them down with steel wool to get the rust off, then used a candle on them for the wax. Later on, I found out that a dose of vegetable oil on a paper towel also worked as well.....

We used Ivory Bar Soap. Spray on Pam is probably better. We use that on the snow blower and dog bells to make them nonstick. Try the Pam and see what you think.

We drug ours over the rocks to shine them up then oiled them with used motor oil dad had then waited for the snow.

We did similar to donjr, sand with fine grit paper and rub the runners down with canning wax.

Even waxed paper from the kitchen may work - we always used that to slippery-up our slide when we were kids.

Wax or parafin. Ski glide wax would be prefect, it's a hard wax.

Actually about anything dry and slick should help.

If you use anything wet (Pam, WD-40, etc.) let it dry completely before using the sled or snow will stick to the runners.

Have fun!

We never had a sled with metal runners. All ours were homemade out of rough lumber and we nailed curtian rods on the runners to make them go faster. getting it back to the top of the hill was the problem.
