What do you buy without checking the price?

I cannot think of one thing that we buy without being aware of the price. Most often we just pay it because the option is a 30 mile drive.

Rick

Tanker said it - I might look at the price, but if I drive 40 miles into the city the gas eats up the difference. The little town 4 miles away is about close enough.

There are a few things I buy name brand but most is generic (for food). I decided long ago that Simply Orange is good enough that I can splurge. No frozen juice for me. I deserve it!

When it comes to parts I always buy name brand in electrical stuff without considering it. I have gotten way too many messed up rebuilt alternators. If they offer the new Bosch you buy it.

Electricity for one thing. But parts when I need them. When I walk in to the dealer,I just ask for it,I don't ask the price.

I never buy ANYTHING in a gas station/conveniance store. Will take the free coffee with fillup though.

Nah...I'm talking about a big ticket item that you must have, and they will seldom even give you a price. Generally they have no price competition.

Where in the Adirondacks ? Spent many great years upstate. Best kept secret in USA...but used to be mighty cold and deep snow. Saw your post about Fultonville. Is Rodewig Chevy still in Canajoharie?

Lived in Glens Falls but traveled the region.

I'll take that bet. There isn't anything I buy w/o checking the price and determining if the value I receive by buying the item is worth the $ I give them. If it isn't worth it, I either look elsewhere for a better price or do without it.

I don't check the price on many items, outside of compairing major things between suppliers. I spend all I can because it is cheaper today than tomorrow. The govm't is printing money every day so that has to bring about drastic inflation. Look at fuel, it is going to compound inflation quickly.

We seldom buy anything without checking prices. That is quite easy to do online now. I was checking for a part that I needed; I found prices varying from $14 to $100 for the same item, depending on who made it and who is selling it. The $14 part is made by the same company that made the part for the manufacturer originally.

I am an absolute bear dealing for big ticket items; my wife sometimes think that I beat up on the seller too hard, but I get it for my price or walk out. Kind of fun to see those vehicle dealers cave in at the last second before I walk.

Can you give an example of what you're looking for?

I price all major purchases ahead of time. About the only thing I don't check the prices for are doctor visits when I'm sick or if I would ever need to go to an Emergency Room. They are not cheap, but sometimes I shouldn't do without.

The same for a fire call if there was a fire. I don't think anyone would call different town fire departments shopping for the best price.

Rodewig Chevy was down the line Scotia maybe. The Roderig name certainly rings bells. M W Roosevelt Chevrolet was in Canjo. for years. They now run a Towing and recovery Business, including the fancy big rigs, and contract with the NYS Thruway Authority. Roosevelt's Chevy dealership was on the north side of the river bridge, across from BEECH NUT, In Palaitine Bridge, NY. I live south of the river, US Rt. 20, Cherry Valley Mtns. My wifey of 47 yrs. plus lived in Canjo.

You want to forget the price and come to Ireland for the Guinness stout....No comparison...I tried a stout in Maine and returned it and asked for another...it was just as bad! Only problem is it is sooo good here you can drink toooo much!

Being retired and on my way out, I do not buy as much stuff as many of you, but most of the time when I do, I get sicker shock with the purchase. Genuine Parts Company owns NAPA and now I own GPC stock, since owning it it has appreciated and pays dividends. If I come away from one of their stores feeling I got screwed, I get over it sooner knowing that everyone else is paying up also. You can take this to the bank: If you think you are on the wrong side in a deal, get on the other side.

MEDICAL CARE.

Probably now costs you more than your house.

Medicare and medicaid are bankrupting the nation and none of us even asks the price. We have no control over the costs...but who does?

Please google the following article from a Recent Time Magazine edition. The facts are chilling. The examples are hair raising.

It is a long article but you will come out of it a much wiser purchaser and a lot more skeptical about how we as a nation can ever get these costs...now 22% of the national economy... under control.

Lots of real life examples and a real business lesson.I lived with competion all my business life and the consumer was the beneficiary. Not so in healthcare.

Had the name wrong, been a long time. I was thinking of Warren Roosevelt.Wasn't he or his father first in Palentine Bridge? Is the old Fonda raceway still running?

How many people buy fuel at the self-serve fuel stops like CFN and Pacific Pride and don't know what you're paying until the end of the month?
Remember,, you can call and ask what the price is before you buy. You might be surprised to find it's cheaper at a regular service station.
I don't understand how they get away without posting the price and why people buy the fuel not knowing how much they're paying.
I always call before pumping.
Dick

Warren and his son are running the towing and recovery business. They moved in to a new facility on 5S on the west end of Canjo, next to the electric power station. Jake Roosevelt pased many years back. We bought all our cars and trucks from them when they were in business.
The Fonda Speedway is bigger and better than ever. No drag racing though. that part closed down in the late 60s.
