Buying on eBay?

I buy a lot of tractor parts on eBay along with chainsaw and chainsaw parts.
I recently had my CC compromised--older thread---and have received the new card.
I was going to change the CC number on my eBay account, but since I have no idea how or where the CC was compromised, I decided to change my password and my User ID.
Then I got to thinking that it might change my feedback if I do so. I have a 100% rating since 2001 and do not want to change that.
I did a search on eBay but can't find a positive answer.
Do any of you know?

I think that you will lose your rating if you change your ID but you
should be able to change your password with no problem.

What I did was have a second card with a small amount in it so there is no way they have acess to my main account. When I buy something I just transfer the amount I need to that card

That's what I am thinking. Look like eBay would warn me before I change either, but they don't.

If you just change your password you should be fine, then update your personal information. Beware of 'phishing'. I once fell for it and they got my password. Found out quick enough to change everything. You may get an "official" looking email from Ebay, or something else, and when you open it there will be an exact copy of an Ebay page where you put in your password to get into a phony ebay. That's how they get your password. The only way to avoid this is never click on a link in an email. Instead log out and then open Ebay in your normal browser and check things out. In other words YOU go find Ebay and never let ANYONE else "GUIDE" you to Ebay.

I also was compromized, but that was a few years ago. Was back-doored from paypal. Somehow those rascals can attach themselves to your account and follow all the way back to your bank. I now have an ebay account at the bank with damn few dollars in it (I can transfer if i need to) Changed my password and do frequently now, And use a crfedit card with protection. I think ebay is much safer now than it was. I still use it.

THANKS--Smart answer!! I get email regularly from eBay that looks suspicious so I don't open anything. I don't open anything in email that looks suspicious, especially when there are typos ! Most of them are "[b:5b30437944]eBay Updates to Account" [/b:5b30437944]. I go to my eBay and check things out.

What JF said below is great advise. Not sure if
you can go back now but all you had to do is
change PW.
If people know how to look Ebay provides past ID
history, you could also mention it in your
auctions. If your not selling the rating doesn't
mean a thing really other than a very few people
who block bidders. I recently made all my kids
quit using my Ebay account and start their own and
they have had close to zero problems because of
it, meaning cant buy what they want because of no
feedback.

My strategy is similar to some others mentioned. Went over to Wal-Mart and picked up one of their "MoneyCards". Costs $3 each time you load it at either a cashier or their ATM, can put as much as $1100 on it a day. Use it for all on-line transactions. Just think of the $3 as a peace of mind fee. If card were compromised, I would just cut it up and go get another one. Loss limited to whatever was on the card at the time which I still might be able to recover through the VISA network.

I give hem a phony name and password if we all did those it would shut them down trying to open a half million accounts hat don't work. I alway laugh when I do this because I think about the poor guy getting all excited over nothing.

Use PayPal if you get stung you can get you money back. Also get Lifelock it's free though AOL.COM once a month I get an Email telling if I'm safe or not. So far so good.
