To start out, it Has been down rite Cold today. Temp was up to 22F at 2:00 this afternoon, but wind was gusting up to 30mph. The 2" of snow we got yesterday, was heading north east today. About 11:00 got a call from the other Uncle who is laid up with a newly installed knee, that a tractor trailer pulled into the yard without pre calling, with with the Seed Way order of corn and soybeans The Skid Steer was tucked away in the shed for the winter. It is a Case 1845, and the Cummins started, no problem.
SOO we only got another 200 buckets up today.
We were getting over to the road where Huricane Sandy blew down a group of trees.
A couple of weeks ago they were still hung up and "widowmakers. Reecent winds finally dropped them to the ground. I spent the morning cutting and draging them out to the sugar house where we will turn them into fuel for the evaporators.
Tomarrow the other uncle won't be there, and we will get back to our routine and hopefilly finish tapping, although we are now figuring on hanging 1500 buckets. We don't argue with him, but he sure can slow us down. HeHe (Generation gap thing) I guess. Hope I'm not boring you guys.

Loren AGC,

What is the building with the two big chimneys? It that where you cook down the sap into syrup?

Really nice photos.

Sweet Feet.
Yes that is our sugar house. the third pic I took when heading up there from the farm this morning. The other building pic. was taken from the back,(woods side) thats where we dump the sap from the gathering trailers into the storage tanks. The evaporators are gravity fed from the storage tanks with floats to control the level of the sap/syrup in the evaporator pans. The stacks are the chimneys for the two evaporators. Once the evaporators are up and running we open the loovers on the copulow to let the steam out of the building also. When up and running the building looks like a Great Lakes Steamer. I will post more pics. from inside as the season progersses.

Great Pics, we only got a dusting of snow last night, but the wind has also been strong Here today. What's the saying, when the wind blows from the west, the sap runs the best, when the wind comes from the east the sap runs the least! Lol

Thanks for letting us look in on you. lol
I really enjoy seeing what everyone is up to, and getting to see the country that otherwise i probably would never get to see.
Very nice set up you have.

From the looks of the sky you had a good day to be outside. Been cold, gray, and windy here for the last couple of days. Keep up with the pictures, I enjoy following your harvest.
Got a few of those widow makers in the woods too, hoping they'll go down over the late spring and summer.
