Hey all, brother has a 2003 chevy, seems odd to me that when its cold out up here in the northland of minnesota, when he first starts it it wont go into reverse until its warmed up, someone told him it was a safety future, first one and only one ive ever seen do this, he said in the summer time it does not do it at all, question is is this normal or is something wrong with it? Thnaks Bob

Bob if it is a Silverado, it has a transmission problem. Might be the filter if it and the fluid haven't been changed in ages. I have a 2005 Silverado which was built in late 2004. I have never had a problem on frigid Indiana mornings.

Probably the valve body or the solenoids that control it.Kind of a semi common problem. I have had 3 of our foreman's trucks do the same thing in the past 2 years. A trip to a reputable trans shop is in order. If they are any good they should be able to swap in a reman valve body. Just don't keep driving it or an overhaul will be in order.

agree with opthers,, never heard of delay system on any transmission, take to shop and have dianostic to make sure not anything other than needing oil and filter change..

bet it is going into reverse but just does not move till warm. nothing to prevent from going into reverse, like if the indicator shows reverse thats where it is in reverse. could be plugged filter or sticky valve. cold weather has no effect on trans operation. thats the oils job.
