Just 4 miles from our house

She used a tool to defend her family from a threat. The intruder should be happy she was not a better shot. He could have been pushing daisies by now.

I will bet this isn't in the national news nor is it figured into the gun crimes on the right side of the tally.

If everyone was armed and dangerous, who would have the "Balls" to commit a crime? You don't walk into a Police Station and rob the place. Makes sense to me..

I believe in home defense but I find it odd that the gun was on a table and both women were awake at 3 AM. One was watching TV and the shooter had just been outside smoking.

It's a late Saturday night Jim, not everyone goes to bed at 10:00PM. I'm sure it'll all be brought up in court.

In MD, an affordable gun like that would be illegal. And the libs would charge her with attempted murder, six or 7 other counts, and a hate crime!

There was such a thing as "The Good Old Days". An FBI Agent went into a bank one day to do some personal banking business and he met a fleeing bank robber at the door. He shot and wounded the robber. J Edgar Hoover then ordered additional firearms training for all FBI Agents with the admonition that there would be no more wounding of bank robbers.

I posed such a question (home invader getting shot....by me) to the local sheriff who gets re-elected repeatedly (including by me) for doing his job ( a great job) as he is paid to do, and the official response of the office is: "Well sir, he just shouldn't have been there".

That pretty well sums it up. Most invasions that take place during the hours that folks are usually home and asleep are with the intention of inflicting body injury upon the occupants to obtain money.

When you are confronted by someone DUMB enough to break into your house in the middle of the night, you can bet he's high on something and not in his right mind in the first place......whatever "right mind" means.

Case in point (on being high on something), the recent shooting 5 times of the guy chasing a lady and her kids to the attic, getting shot, going back down 2 flights of stars (attic access and second floor), goes out to his car, cranks it up and attempts to leave.......but was stopped by a tree.

Even though it would be a traumatic event, I'll shoot first and worry about any consequences later.

"Highland, Ill. (KSDK) -- A home invasion turned violent early Sunday morning in Highland, Illinois."

I would have thought the act of invading someone's home was an act of violence.

My wife surprised me the other day. At school during a "teaming meeting" with other teachers the topic of the recent shootings came up and she said she had been thinking about getting a CCW permit. Every teacher at the table said they had been thinking the same thing and they decided they would all take the class together (I don't think that's what the school had in mind for teaming but it works). Looks like they all take the class next month.

good for her! had one a mile from my place. young lady heard a fellow trying to break in and called the law. stayed on the phone the whole time. she grabbed her baby in one arm, shoved the couch in front of the door, retreived a pistol and shotgun, asked the dispatcher what else to do. dispatcher told her to do what was needed to protect herself. when the fellow finaly came through the door, she shot him with a 12gauge. he never even dropped his knife. scared the old boy with him who was watching for the law so bad he ran three miles to town and turned himself in.county sheriff dept took over twenty minutes to get there. police in town three miles away,(who were called only when sherrif deputy didnt arrive soon enough)six minutes.police chief whos a friend of mine, said he had folks calling his office from as far away as russia, in support of her!

If rumors get around that teachers are trained, might be a deterrent in itself, even if no one carries anything with the. Around here there is some chatter about teachers being licensed, possibly carrying. But there's a large inertia standing uo for "NO!"

Come to think of it, there are a lot of teachers who wouldn't touch a firearm with a 10 foot pole, and with them, that's probably too close. Lot of teachers have no business with a firearm.

Ask how I know.... (retired teachewr, myself.)

Exact analogy with citizens having the right to keep and bear arms.

If a law breaker knows you have a gun on the premises, know how to use it, and are not afraid to shoot (at) a human being (????) he will probably go to the next house, or the next, etc.

If a law breaker thinks YOU MIGHT have all of the above he will probably do the same.

But if the law breaker knows for sure that you are unarmed, what's to deter the act? Especially if he is whooped up on something.

My 2c,
Mark
