Well since it is nice but windy out I took one of my raised beds with cold frame and planted a number of cool weather seeds. Did radishes Lettuce cabbage and Broccoli. I then moved another cold frame to another raised bed and put glass on it so as to let it warm the soil some before planting any thing in it. By the way it is around 55 degrees out if not warmer

I had in mind of doing some of the same today but i would have to use scuba gear just to get to the garden. Man what rain today. We have had at least 4 storms that dumped a downpour each on us since mid morning.

All depends on the weather we have. In the past I have had lettuce grow all winter long and also onions. Some of my cold frames have been in the same spot for years and all I do is remove the glass from the tops of them

Ah so move or less getting pretty close to Gulf Port MS where the navy sea bee base is right?? My son was stationed there till he got external_link sized as in his Battalion and 7 others where disbanded and most got kicked out of the Navy when that happened

I am at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri now. Lived in Cleveland for 3 or 4 years. Delivered the Memphis Newspaper every morn and at one time was up to around 1500 of them a day. Took one heck of a pay cut when I joined the navy since I was making over $225 a week doing the papers and the navy starting pay was just a tad over $650 a month

Old,
How are cold frames made? I guess what i'm trying to ask is what do you use in the bed?I suppose it's some type of manure.I have lots of rabbit manure. Will this work?I'm in NEPA a little colder area than you.

I still have about five 5 gallon buckets of carrots to dig up from last year. We can't get them all eaten....They survived the 12 days of below 32 weather we had....guess my silage mulch did its job. Pic of my raised beds made from concrete railroad ties. Nice thing is I can drive my big tractor up on them and till them up in one pass with the 5' rotovator.

That's amazing the difference from here to were you are,we don't start anything inside until mid march! Its 19 degrees here right now! It was 1 this morning. Lol.. ;)

I took a few pictures of the 2 cold frames I have set up and will post them in a little bit and explain what I fill the raised beds with

Well yes no and sort of. I know of times you have it warm up there and we are cold but not right now and guess your playing with snow also

I tilled my raised beds yesterday. It was in the 70s; I was wiping sweat. I'll plant some lettuce and spinach after the rain tomorrow.

Lol, that's right old, last march we had a few 80 degree days, than back to cold, it really messed up the apple trees, and alot of other things.
