I want to replace the generator belt on my John Deere 420U tractor. Looking for instuctions on how to do this. Thanks for your help.

Did that on one last year. I took the generator off first, then worked the fan belt off through the hard places. It certainly wasn't an easy job. i almost cut it off, but wanted to be sure I could get the new one on. if you HAVE to change it, just cut it off. I had the hood off and the sheet metal around the radiator off as well, I might have even loosened the bolts on the radiator, although I didn't take the radiator off. That tractor was one of the meanest tractors I ever worked on.everything was a major PIA. Good luck

Loosen all three the bolts on the generator or risk breaking the generator body.
Check the generator pulley for wear. Unless flat and square. Excess belt tension to prevent slippage will cause early bearing/bushing failure.

I have about a dozen of the Dubuque tractors and didn"t think it was that bad of a deal changing the belts. You ought to change belts on some of the newer tractors, particulary the ones with the front hydraulic pump driven with the shaft off the front of the crank.
