Snow in Upstate New York

My WD-45 is in hibernation; that's the tractor part.
I live about 50 miles west of Albany and we got only about 10" of snow last night. Just enough to make things look nice and not enough to be much of a problem.
I have a steep driveway but fortunately it faces South and as the sun gets higher in the sky it melts off pretty quickly.
We had little wind but it was blowin' some snow around on the hill across the valley today. My S.I.L. and her husband live in Colebrook, CT and they got upwards of 30" but hard to measure since they also got lots of wind.

Pretty scenery. Is that near Dansville, NY? I visited my college buddy in the Fall of 1973. I-390 was just being built at that time.

Brian,
If I crossed Rt7 just east of the rim of the quarry, and continued south, up the mountain, would I be headed to your place? It looks real familiar to me. I used to work for HHH in Johnstown, if that rings any bells.

One of the prettiest cross countrys I flew was in the Fall of 1976. We flew into Pease AFB at Portsmouth, NH (still open) on a Friday. Drove all over eastern Maine on Saturday. On Sunday we flew low level from Pease to Griffis AFB (now closed) at Rome NY. The leaves were in full color. Just a tremendous flight over NY state.

Pease is closed too, When the airforce closed it down and the city of Portsmouth got it. Now a jet port and trade center.

(quoted from post at 13:55:50 02/09/13) Red, I'm northeast of Dansville, 10 miles South of Cobleskill.

im in Cobleskill.. we got quite a bit of snow in the last two days. back home though in Wilson- NW of dansviille bout an hour away got about 18 inches

Jim thanks for the information. Was that recently? A lot of bases I flew into are now closed, especially in Texas. Oklahoma's bases have survived most of the cut backs. I flew out of Vance AFB in north central Oklahoma.

ACG, if you're talking about the old cement Quarry (Howes Cave) I think you'd be heading in my direction. Look up West Fulton, NY.
Incidentally, my son who is a Correction Officer, and used to work at Camp Summit (Later Summit Shock) now works at Hale Creek near Johnstown.
He used to drive 4 miles to work and now drives 51 miles.
He's got 30 years in but a recent divorce makes it impossible for him to retire for a few more years.
You've gotta tell me who HHH is.

I used to work at Camp Georgetown, went Summit a couple of times to exchange inmates. Never heard of Hale Creek, is that a state facility ? Course I've been retired for over 20 years they could have made a new one.

We are talking the same neighborhood, but I think you are farther over the ridge, than I am thinking. Do you know a farmer named Bob Mann? he took over Keith Parslow's farm.years ago, below the Fulton town barn. HHH is Home Heating Hqts. Harrman stove dealer..

Griffis is now a air tech industrial park, doing airliner maintanance and associated business. Heard on the Utica news that lately they are doing some more low level flights in the reigon again and not to be alarmed, if there are big planes flying low.

ACG, I certainly do know Bob Mann, he and I have a common interest; '64-'65 Falcons. He used to drag-race a '64 at Fonda right after he got outa H.S.
He lives only about 4-5 miles away on "Bear's Ladder" Rd. I saw him go by the church today in his Dodge plow/sand truck when I was cleaning out the Church parking lot.
He is now "collecting" pre-'94 Dodge P.U.s with Cummins diesels; he has a bunch of them!
His son is the Town Supervisor in the Town of Blenheim.
Small world ain't it?

Dave, I've been to Camp Georgetown a few times; Camp Pharsalia too! I started my Career with Corrections at Camp Summit in 1962 and Retired from Wallkill in 1995. The State was good to me, I started out as a G-4 Account Clerk and retired as a Deputy Supt.
Never was in the uniform ranks.
The Camps were great back in the 50's and 60's when all the inmates (Campmen) worked out in the State reforestation areas. My son sure misses Camp Summit.
It had become a "Shock" facility but they were still doing some work in the woods. He was one of the COs lucky enough to take gangs out to work in the woods.
Hale Creek is a State Correctional Facility.

The next time you see him say Hi from his old Case dealer. That will get his intrest, and then tell him his twin Bro, Bob also says Hi. He will explain that to you.
