IHC letters.

I thought I knew everything. Ha Ha.. I have never learned all the other IHC letter other than the normal one. What do they mean? example BN, MTA. Etc Etc. I know O stands for orchard and has to do with fenders, muffler.

N = Narrow
TA = Torque Amplifier
V = Vegetable (aka Hi Crop)
W = Wheatland (aka Standard Tread)
S = Super (ie SC, SH, SM)

So, an SMTAD would be a Super M, with a torque amplifier and a diesel engine.

BN Its a B with narrow front end. MTA; M with torque ampilifier; MDTA is M diesel with torque ampilifier

BN has a narrower reared than a B and the B was never built in a wide front end from the factory.

As I recall from a Red Power article, 'W' originally stood for "wheel tractor". "Wheatland' was a later term that was later 'adopted' by the public.Kinda like when the original 'Farmall' became known as the "Regular".

BN has a narrow rear. They all had a narrow front.

its SMTA DIESEL. there is no D in the decal, the word diesel is added.

I stand corrected on the BN, but not all Bs had narrow front end. I was going to buy a B with wide adjustable front end some years ago. It was in Penn. state, too fur to go git.

That front was from an A. The B never came with a factory wide front.

Yes, ALL B's HAD narrow fronts. At least once. But somebody could have put a wide front from ab A on it later. The parts between an A & B will mix and match.

The Farmall B's never came out with a wide front. Unless some one took one off an "A" and put it on a "B"
