OT: Bank Job Vault very Last Pics

Vault was 4inch panels that had metal imbedded in the edges and small metal pieces welded on to connect them. There were also metal strips imbedded in the floor but they were not connected to the walls. My brother dropped the wrecking ball through roof once then started pulling the panels apart. He left the door standing till I showed up on the job yesterday. I'm afraid might have damaged the screen door when came down quicker than I expected. (Sorry no pic of that) Oh Well.:)About half floor is up already.

I am doing some better and have been working a few hours the last two days. Mostly I need to get out of the house. Thank You for asking.

Sorry if you covered this elsewhere.
I am always wondering who pays for this nonsense. In this case- did the bank share holders lose big? Why build new and fancy just to knock it down?
Who owns/owned the property? Who ordered/paid for the demolition?

Breifly, bank was merged with another bank with branch just up the street. They wanted the realestate for an entrance to a subdivision. At least that's what I remember being the excuse, previous posts.
Still seems like a big waste of valuable property and buildings.

I was very interested in the vault walls - seems like very flimsy construction compared to what I expected. Was expecting about 12 inch reinforced concrete walls.

Remember years ago, when they took the projection booth down in an old theater around here. Took them days to demolish with sledge hammers. Was built back in the day of highly flamable celluloid films.

Glad to hear you are on the mend! Thanks for the pictures of vault construction also! Apparently vaults are going the way of everything else in the USA, don't go through the door, that is strong as well as for appearence. The sidewall is the easy way! 8)

They generally are that thick. I was told that they did not keep that much money at this branch. Mostly kept important papers. If it is any consolation the floor is about 10 inches and lots of rebar.

I will come in from the top or side next time. No more digging tunnels with all the fiber optic internet traffic, they would be on me in a minute!

It is a very long story. Suffice to say that a very large corporation Owned this property and did not renew the lease to the bank. They needed this property as it part of the entrance to a large development.

The first pic is awesome!

Interesting that the bank was built in such a rural area. Looks like wide open fields in the one photo.

It appears that way because we have already taken down a number of buildings. Right behind me in these pics is I 26. We have a lot more to do yet. One of the pictures you can see a corner of the building that the bank was in before they built this big fancy one. I have one other before it is scheduled to come down. Maybe three weeks. It also has a vault in it.
