The guy built this in the early 50's and some for his neighbors. He went to JD and found out they had one almost ready to make.

The first Oliver corn heads were like chopper heads. They cut the whole plant and ran it all through the combine.

Dad got a new 45 JD in 59 and it came with a I think a No. 10 corn head. But our neighbor had had one on a Massey for maybe 3 years. It was from the self-pr opelled Corn picker. It was a big deal to put on. Had to put a front on the cylinder and the adapter left a hole on top of the cylinder. The corn dropped down on the top of the cylinder.

The 45 combine was introduced in limited numbers in 1954 and for general production in 1955. The No. 10 corn head was introduced at the same time or very close to go along with it. The "corn attachment", as it was called then, was later adapted to fit on the 55 and 95 combines. The first of these combines were known as "No. X5". Later on the "No." was dropped. Mike

That is the closest picture I have seen of the JD we had. The fold up unloading auger looks home made, built looking at the corn head it could be.

The 2x4s holding up the tin awning would have caused a bit of a blind spot.

I love to look at those machines when "new" and wish I had one.
