NAPA oil filters

I built an external oil filter kit for my MH44 and used the NAPA 1050 filter, I am looking at a kit from CNG for my Farmall H that uses the 1051 filter.

Can you tell me the difference, and can I use the 1051 for both?

Thanks,

They should both spin on, but the 1050 looks like a better filter. You're better off using the 1050 for the flow rating.

1050 specs are 380psi max, 1-3 gpm 5.178 height by 3.66 dia. 10 micron.

1051 specs are 350psi max, 1 gpm, 4.338 height by 3.66 dia. 10 micron

They both should work on the same base. One is a little bigger and has a slightly higher flow rate. Both are bypass filters so a higher flow rate might make the oil preasure lower in the engine.

Wix.
If you have the patience, I think you can dig through their website and get all the spec's.
My supplier gave me a catalog which I find much easier to use.

Size of metering orifice is different between #1050 and #1051. 1050 is popular filter and used on Ferarri's (GTB275GTB - 1965)plus many others makes. I would stock 2 filters .

I use a 1050 on my 44sp and a 1051 on my 30. they both hold good oil pressure, they fit on the same base, these are farm tractors and get the fizz run out of them, change oil every 100 hours, works good for me.

My catalog does not list orifice size but I should have one or both in stock. I will take a look tomorrow if I can remember.

NAPA filters may be a major brand in different clothes. Like you buy a new widget and is has a special filter costing twice what it should. You ease the outer layer of paint off it and wala see who made it.

With that said, major US suppliers have www sites with filter specs where you can compare apples to apples.

Something to realize is that there aren't that many difference performance variations in filters. A lot of it is geometry of the case to fit a particular application.

My guess is that an auto OEM is putting out a super hot dog new car but the location causes the xyz filter to hit the whatever. Say Wix, or whomever, can you cut half inch off your xyz filter for me? Wala a new number.

Stated opinion is mine derived from my personal research into the subject.

1050 has about a .060 /.065 orifice measured with a 1/16 drill bit.
1051 I do not have. Sorry can't be of better help.
