explaining my cost to bale to the post below

The cost sheet is based on my figures from 2010, as last year was a whole lot more expensive!
It does NOT include any provisions for rent/taxes that should be included. I do pay rent by baling another 6-7 acres a half mile away for the owner and hauling to their barn, but pay no cash rent.
After many years in the excavating/earthmoving business, my cost per hour are really minimum for the machines and something that each individual should look at closly. If I can find an old mache cost estimate sheet that I used in my business, I'll post it here sometime.
As you can see, I don't fertilize heavy and my field started off as a pure alfalfa stand in 2003. Since about 2007 I have been adding timothy seed every year and the alfalfa runs from about 50% to none at al in spots. The cost of planting the alfalfa has been written off a long time ago, so the only thing included in the cost is maintainance seeding and fertilizer.
On average, I do about 2.5+ ton per acre or about 125 sm squares.

How are you adding the Timothy seed? Broadcast, or no till ect, just interested on how you do it.

Jay, usually I just have FS blend about 5 lbs/acre in with gran fert and spred.
In 2009, I ran my disc thru 2 times with real shallow angle to cut remaining alfalfa heads then drilled 10 lbs to strengthen the stand. Lost a good part of the alfalfa that year.
