If he doesnt like the cost of hay, he sure wont like the price of land and equipment to make his own.

People like that expect you to give your stuff away, when you may be producing at a loss.

I grumble about price increases too, so I understand where he is coming from, just blow off some steam.

But, yea, it is what it is, fuel, parts, twine, fertilizer hasn't gone down in price either, and droughts make shortages that is how business works.

10 years ago a load of nice looking ditch hay did not bring 40 cents a bale at an auction I was at, he wasn't there to lend a hand and pay the fella a 'proper' price for that hay, when all costs have gone up and it's in short supply just gonna be where the market is.

Couldn't see the ad from here at work but if I get the gist of it he's complaining about high hay prices(?). I feel the pain (paying $5 for a standard bale) but understand why it's that high. No way I could afford the land and equipment to do it myself. I'm just glad to get it, my guy delivers and stacks it in my loft (using a bale elevator he sold me). We usually get around 1,000 to 1,300 a year.

I agree with Bill if you can't afford your hobby get ride of them or buy your own equipment and land and try it yourself. Oh and call for a load of diesel fuel and see how far your money goes.
