andy r 02-04-2013 16:16:20 75.91.149.15 Report to Moderator	Will a slave cylinder used on a Case tractor (yellow) with power brakes which uses universal transmission fluid be OK when used on another machine which uses brake fluid to operate the slave cylinder? Didn't know about how the brake fluid would affect the seals set up for transmission fluid. I can buy after market Case slave cylinders for $130 less than Deere ones for a John Deere 4420 combine. They look to be about the same unit. If the fluids are compatible I will physically get one to see for sure. Measurements seem to be the same. Thanks. [Reply]   [No Email]

In general, you can't use cylinders intended for petroleum-based fluid with glycol fluids and vice versa. However, some cylinders can be used with either. I believe the seals need to be made of neoprene to be resistant to both types of fluid. Without access to the manufacturer's specs, there's no way to know if the Case cylinder will work.   [Reply]  [No Email]
