is it just me

or is age taking a toll on my tolerance level. tv has become worthless and near totally demeaning. driving patience in general (other drivers, parking, traffic lights) is lessening. the observance of others (dress, nastiness, language, work, ethic, habits) brings out the worst in my comments. seems i am the most content being at home. maybe its just a spell of winter doldrums, oh well it soon will be gardening and grass cutting and them a spell of summer doldrums.

All the Tv programs about travel, history, how its made and many othere channels and you say its worthless doesent your channel selector work.

Us old guy's BS filter gets plugged up and we can't stand anymore BS. LOL

I want to win the Lotto and become a professional hermit. Many days I do not want to deal with ANY people. Family included. LAMO

It is one of the reasons I did not switch to another dealer when the one I used to work at closed. I just was tired of dealing with people day in and day out.

Really loved to hear a guy poor mouthing me about how tough farming was. He was driving a new $50K pickup and ordering a $250K combine. Yes his life was real tough!!!!

The one thing I have noticed that is I am getting worse at is women's voices. Many times one will come on the radio and not be saying anything wrong but just their tone causes me to hit the mute button.

Not that I have to worry about winning the lottery but your lucky that your state has good privacy laws in that respect. My mother's cousins live in Iowa so that is how I would know. Win a million dollars here and your life is not your own no matter how much you try to hide.

I've got to agree with you. I like the home life. People's rudeness is getting to be intolerable. Most TV is not worth watching. There are some good shows, but I think i've seen them all about a dozen times. Prices of everything is way out of proportion to what most people have to spend. And our government, well I won't get started on that. I always wondered why the life span is so short, now I think I've figured it out.

Pete, I know what you mean, I have always had a low tolerance for stupid people, and since I moved out of the city and to my farm it has gotten extremely worse. I think it is like an imune system, when you are away from it more than around it you do not have any tolerance. I am getting so bad that I hate to go to the coffee shop and listen to that dried up crap..So no Pete its not just you.

totally agree with your statement on women's voices. will probable get hit over the head with this but: sarah palin's voice just grated on my nerves, then throw in that attempted dreamy eyes look with the teased hair and oh those glasses. oh well, quess i will stop and listen to music for a while, THEY CALL ME MELLO YELLOW IS ON.

Wore out the remote trying to get something that was worth watching. Pure trash and tops on the list are talk shows where every goofball is trying to talk over another and give their worthless opinion. Crackly womens voices are a real pain as they try to emulate a little baby girls speach when they talk about yesterdays tractors. 68 and ready to check out.

Just take some time for your self.

We need to get away sometimes when we think it's just the world gone crazy when it's actually us.

I am the same way.
TV is crap, going to the mall is like going to a freak show.
I am very content just staying home too.

I cannot stomach going to sports stadiums, malls or bars.

It aint just you. I got asked by a friend from the old days, how come I never come up town? I answered" cuz there are other people there" . I got a blank stare. Went way over his head. He is part of the problem and can't take a hint.

Wish we had an easy listening station.. All we have is Rap and Heavy Metal music.. I was in Atlanta recently, and of all the stations there, I could not find anything decent..

When I notice that all the drivers on the road except me are jerks, or when people in general are just being stupid, it"s time for me to take a break and re-adjust. I also notice, that at 65, these periods are getting sloser together.

As far as people on the road I think they have been come idiots. Many will pull out in front of a guy just to take miles to get up to speed if they ever do which of course slows you down. Or they almost stop to take a side road and that is with no signal and the bad thing is, is they are the ones driving the newer fancy cars so they should think about what happens to there car if they do get hit due to them not doing things as they should

I switched to Dish satalite several years ago just so I could watch RFD TV
To me most of the other channels is garbage, especially the "Sports challels"

Must be a disease. Seems that a bunch of us old geezers have caught it.

Not sure if it is viral, bacterial, or genetic.

We all have a BS limit.

I used to be a moderator and administrator on a petroliana collector forum, and I used to be very active on some racing forums. I've found in recent years people seem to be divided about pretty much everything. I think it's a sign of the economic and political times. Anyway, people seem to have a short fuse when discussing just about anything. I resigned from the petroliana forum and I rarely post on racing forums. I haven't even been to the petroliana forum in over a year. I used to post on another tractor forum and recently logged off and doubt I'll return. I'm tired of all the damn arguing and negativity about everything. I do my best to avoid negative situations I find myself in the middle of situations or conversations I just as soon not be in.

From what I can tell the younger folks have grown accustomed to everything being extreme. Extreme sports, extreme behavior. That irks some of the older folks. But from my experience nearly all of the younger people act differently when they're around old folks like me. They're respectful, at least to me.
When I was young the old folks complained about my generation too.

I don't watch much network TV. I know that other people enjoy the network programming and that doesn't bother me one bit. Life would be pretty darn boring if we were all alike.

A couple of things have stuck with me over the years. I once read that "Friends come and go, but enemies accumulate". Wise words indeed!
The other was a "discussion" between my Dad who was very conservative in his politics and a friend of his that was a Democratic State Representative. They had a knock down drag out debate about the at the time new IL state lottery. When they were done with their "discussion" they shook hands, smiled and said have a good evening, I'll see you tomorrow. I was confused. I told my Dad that it sounded like they hated each other and I was surprised when they shook hands after their argument. Dad explained that they had a debate, not an argument. He elaborated that a debate would bring out the positive and negative aspects about the topic at hand and the debates aren't personal. He said that's how we learn. Learn I did! BTW, Dad won that debate when his friend said something about how the state was handling the lottery proceeds. Dad asked him to repeat it. The guy did. Dad said Gottcha! The State Rep looked at the floor and said yes you did.

How does this relate to today? It seems very few can differentiate between having a debate and an argument. Everyone is so entrenched in their opinions that they won't even consider the possibility that the opposing view has any merits. The bitter political divisiveness we see today has spilled over into other parts of our lives. People feel the need to point out how they don't like what other people do. It's very prevalent on this forum. It has little to nothing to do with debating a topic or even arguing about it. Some feel the need to pump themselves up or degrade others with their comments. They're drama queens. The world would be a better place if people would mind their own damn business!

Joe Nichols has a country song song that addresses this issue.
"I was sittin' outside in the front yard Lawn chair, kiddie pool, soakin' up the sun Old man walks by and said, "We got this thing called ambition Why don't you buy a suit and go get you some?"
[b:a5ec004698]Like he ain't got enough of his own business Now he's got to go mindin' mine [/b:a5ec004698]Opportunity knocks and I miss it
It ain't no crime, it ain't no crime If I wanna kick back and kill a little time It ain't no crime
I was gettin' some pink in my color Next door the lady says, "Why you always layin' around? A fine you man like you should be married with some children Instead of all these honeys runnin' in and out"
Like[b:a5ec004698] she ain't got enough of her own business Now she's got to go mindin' mine[/b:a5ec004698] I don't have a lotta kids and a Mrs.
It ain't no crime, it ain't no crime If I wanna kick back and steal a kiss sometime It ain't no crime
[b:a5ec004698]If everybody minded their own business They'd be too busy to worry 'bout mine [/b:a5ec004698]If I live life the way I wanna live it
It ain't no crime, it ain't no crime If I wanna kick back and chill Or steal a kiss from a girl I will every time It ain't no crime, it ain't no crime, it ain't no crime"

That's my 2 cents.

Davis,

Just get an iTunes account and buy all the songs you love and either burn your own CDs or put them in an iPod. That's what we did... no more commericals and we love every song we hear while hanging out in the shop.

I was in the hospital for over a week talk about crappy TV. when it works. I was just starting to watch one of my favorites Gold Rush when the system went down and my battery on my cell was dead so I couldn't record it on my home set.
What's this life getting to be anyway, no more Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid or he Phamtom bummer.
Wal
Ps ford news sure as some pretty girls on it.

No, it's not just you. The world in general and the USA in particular is going to Helen A. Handbasket.

Two popular shows on one of the Alphabet Networks are "Shameless" and "House of Lies" both of which appear to make celebrities out of the most dysfunctional people imaginable. "Pretty Little Liars" is another.

I retired in October. This is the first Winter in 45 years that I haven't worked, and I don't have heat in my shop so I'm sorta housebound. I've watched more TV in the last 3 months than I have in the last 10 years. I sorta like NCIS, and there are a couple of shows on PBS (Doc Martin is one) that are good.

The rest varies from mindless pap to downright disgusting. If I had children at home, I wouldn't let them watch TV without me in the room. Even the commercials are garbage.

If it's age,it's aflicting me too. I don't care if I never leave the house anymore. At least not around here. There's places down in the hills where I can still find some peace. Have to try to get down there at least once a year to try to recharge my batteries.

(quoted from post at 20:05:51 02/04/13) Greenville has some nice stations. I listen to them when I'm in Clayton, GA.
ave, I'm from Greenville,SC and listen to some of the talk radio stations there. When I get tired of them, I listen to Old Time (40-50's) radio on the internet. Here's the link to it. I hope it's OK to post links on here, I reckon I'll find out.

Nope, mostly good country and some of the classic rock and a new rock song once in awhile. Love Jimmy Buffett too. Also like a little Old Time music because my parents always listened to it.
