It's difficult, I know......

.....for some of you to even think about sports and the Super Bowl but did anyone catch Alicia Keys doing the "National Anthem?" That poor girl must have been having a severe case of menstrual cramps! It was painful!

Take a good share of today's performers out of the sound studio away from mixer boards and sound engineers and they aren't nearly as talented.

My wife bit my head off because I said just wait she'll jive it up. When it was almost done my wife said see she didn't.... And there it was a scat/jive finish!

I don't watch TV and didn't see it but I feel bad for anyone who has to sing our national anthem. We have some quite nice singable patriotic songs in this country so in my opinion it is too bad that they picked the one that has a dud tune and no one can remember the words past the first verse, if that. Canada's national anthem has a much nicer tune to my ear.

Mike Roe on Dirty Jobs was at a Minor L ball game and sang it . If ya ever get a chance you want to here it . He hit every word and note , made you feel it and could tell he was feeling it . No ablibs or jivin and did not sound or look like he was about to poop !! The people they pick to sing it now dont have the respect for the country to sing the song as it is ment to be .

The Star Spangled Banner is our National Anthem and i support it, respect it, pay taxes for it, served in the Armed Forces for it and continue to love and admire it. i also teach the same value to our grandchildren. times may be tough, morals decaying and political views different than mine but this is still the Greatest Nation in the world. i don't know why and probably wouldn't understand why you feel the way you do but those thoughts and feelings are just as bad as whatever things you oppose.

No, a woman who thinks she can sing. Somehow she managed to escape karaoke night and get into a studio.

You want someone who"s pretty bad without the sound boards and mixers? Try listening to Metallica live. OUCH!

I'm not opposed to the message or the anthem, I just think it is really hard to sing compared with America The Beautiful or My Country, Tis of Thee and such.

I believe he used to be an opera singer before Dirty Jobs.

Last year, I attended a basketball game at the school I was working at. I got there early enough to walk into a conversation between the guidence counselor and the superintendent. It seams they'd misplaced the CD with the National anthem. The guidence counselor had a fine suggestion, She said, "Dan can play it on his dobro." Now I had noodled around with it some, and if it were "Crazy Arms" or "Your Cheatin' Heart" with a full band no problem. But we're talking the Star Spangled Banner as a solo!

Let me tell you, I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockin' chairs. I somehow managed to pull it off, but I hope I never find myself in that predicament again!

As my old band director used to say just before we played the National Anthem, "Keep it upbeat and lively; this isn't a funeral dirge."

You can thank God that you didn't have to listen to ME sing it! HA

I've tried it. It's hard to sing. . . Somebody like Hilo Brown could nail it. Or George Jones. You need a wide vocal range to hit the highs and lows in that melody. Good song, nobody's debating that. And Zach wasn't criticising the country when he commented below. I love to hear it, and I'm proud of it, and Zach is too, but the fact is - it's a tough one to sing. Step up in front of a crowd and belt it out. You'll still be proud of the song, but you'll agree that it's hard to sing. Mebbe they chose it for our National Anthem so the nobodies like me won't attempt it in public, ha.
