My 1952 8N oil to use in winter

I have just recently changed oil. I switched from SAE 30 to SAE 10W 40. I plow snow and the temp has been between 15 & 20. I haven"t used it since I changed oil, but it started up much easier. Will I be OK to go ahead and plow with using this oil? My manual does not show what oil to use. I would appreciate some input. Confussed in Michigan.
Thanks

You will be fine. Most people on here tun 15-40 in almost all their engines including me. The oils today are 100xs better then anything available in the 1950's.

Always investigate and know if an oil has enough Zinc to protect the cam and Lifters..
Most new automotive oils for Newer cars have no where near enough Zinc..

If concerned, you can always add a bottle of Lucas oil treatment. That should be enough added lubricity to alleviate any concerns without making the oil any thicker.

As long as the oil pressure does not drop off real real low you can use that 365 days of the year. Now if you have a oil pressure problem and the reason you used the 30W was low pressure then you may have a problem. If so you could also try a 20W40

IRon is correct even the new Diesel oils don"t have zinc in them, zinc clogs up a converter SO you can be zinc aditive for your older engine & your cam lobes won"t get flat.
I bought a case of it as I use it in my 2-diesels ,lawnmower, snowblower all the old stuff.

Your comments were very helpful, Thank you! I plowed last night and the oil pressure while plowing was around 40. While idling it dropped to about 15. Is this acceptable?
This morning when I removed the crankcase breather cap it had ice in it along with the breather tube. Is this normal or a reason to be concerned. Would that 15W-40 be better for my engine? Still confused in Michigan.

I use 15-40 Rotella in everything I have year 'round. My 61 yo 8N runs 25psi cold, 15-20psi hot, and idles around 7psi in the summer. Ain't done a thing but points, condenser, plugs, and change oil and filter since I've had it(20+ years). It still doesn't miss a beat. Slow turning, low compression engines aren't bothered by low oil pressure. As long as there is a readable OP, don't worry.
