I've never seen a narrow front steam engine tractor before, that has to be a beast to steer? At the 3 minute mark. Wonder what the reason for narrow front on such a beast?

It's not like they would row crop the thing or mount a picker on it, it's a power plant for belt work and heavy tillage.

Maybe to takes up less shed space. Or the farmer's kid thought it would look cooler with a chopped front axle and did it while dad was picking corn at the neighbors..... ;)

I can't get the video to come up. You must be talking about a American-Abel. John Abell sold the company to Advance threshing co. and too Minneapolis threshing co. The narrow front was to put less stress on the boiler. they were built in Canada as plowing engines for the Canadian west.
