Parents anniversary

I was reading fergienewbee's post about cleaning out his parents stuff and just noticed the date. This would have been my folks 67th anniversary.

One of the last years that Dad was still in good enough health to help milk,he showed up here the night of their anniversary. I told him I thought they'd have probably gone out for supper that night. He got a heck of a look on his face and said "that's why she's been giving me that look all day". Out the door he went.

I have had a few of those moments and only been married 17 years.

I tell her, "anniversary? what? I didn't pay attention, every day with you is like Heaven!" That gets an even worse look, then we go out somewhere as I am apologizing for forgetting.

Nice thing my anniversary is always the weekend of Woodward Dream Cruise and MMOGTA.

I got the reminder when we were on our walk this morning; the day is coming up the end of next month.

Mrs. (WA) and I will be 42 years on Feb. 12. Usually go out to nice restaurant, but she has to start fasting for Feb 13 colonoscopy on the 12. I suggested we could still go to Anthony's Home Port for dinner- I'd have the lobster, and she could drink her clean-out juice.

But we are going to Hawaii first week of Feb., so that will be our celebration.

42 years- its been a pretty good run, overall- just can't believe its been that long. We've always joked that what kept us together during the difficult child-rearing years was the potential custody battle if we split up- "You take 'em." "Oh, no, you don't, YOU take 'em."

I think what actually went as far as anything was both having a good sense of humor. I still remember early on, when we were arguing about something, and I said something that made her laugh. Argument over, but she warned me not to do that again- it wasn't "fighting fair".

nice story! been 45 years for me. still have the top layer of our wedding cake in the freezer. it and us have survived living in 4 states and 9 different homes during that time. 2 grown mature sons, thanks to her, and 2 wonderful grandchildren.
on the note of cleaning out parents home, did that 2 years ago, tough job, especially deciding what to keep, what to sell and just junk for the trash.

Mom and Dad are both 93,dad will be 94 next month. They've been married 73 years.Dad still goes down and feeds the animals every day, still drives cars and tractors.I'm a rookie, only been married 38 years this year.

A feller I had breakfast with was telling me about his wifes grandfather who was 86 and gettin' married again to a younger gal that was 75!! The best part was that he had to see what his MOM thought about it!! She was 102 at the time. Sharp as a tack till she passed on her 109th birthday with all of her family there. Went in and took a nap and it was all over.
