Was reading a post by "paul" and noticed his join date was 12-25-1997. Assuming that's accurate, all I can say is "Wow". Started wondering about long-time users and saw the Memberlist. Take a look. After the moderators, paul is the oldest YT'er. 15 years! I imagine that "paul" had something to do with getting this site started.

I also imagine a lot of the old-time users have gone on to other things but scrolling through the list, I see some names I see regularly on here from 97 and 98. I also scratched my head over a couple of user names with a few posts and dates of 1974, which I find hard to believe as that's the year I got my Computer Science degree and I know the state of computers back then and I'll guarantee there was no "Tractor Forum" that you or I could access.

Those old users were dyslexic. It was 1947, not 1974. Gov was making sure we had enough tractors and technology out there for the baby boom. They started the site, but until us regulars happened upon it, it was a top secret board.

Think that just makes me old? ;)

Not sure when I joined up, but it was a while ago. Lot of
different folks have passed by here.

I didn't have anything to do with crating this place, just found it
one day, and it was pretty cool.

Still is.

I also joined about that time, but probably under my first and last name. At some time when the site underwent a software change to "Classic", a lot of names were lost. So being a bit more net savy regarding privacy issues, I took the more genetic name I now use.

Yes, there were a number of good people. One who comes to mind (Ford tractors) was "Llamas". He lived a bit west of Detroit in the town of Brighton where he and wife had a small hobby farm with llamas. Besides being a chemical engineer (AFAIK), he was a serious author of technical papers. When he spoke, I listened.

I don't post very often, but I do check the board daily or more often. We have a wide variety of experienced folks here, and that makes it interesting.

What's funny is I'm from MN also, always do a double take when I see your handle, wonder if my split personality is coming out. ;)

Whoa! I knew a guy (back in the late 90's) who had previously owned a company that made industrial robotic equipment, had a lot of patents, was semi-retired (consulted a lot) lived near Detroit and raised llamas. His business card even had llamas on it. I think his first name was Dale, IIRC. Don't know if he was also a CE but it wouldn't surprise me. Smart dude. I need to go home and see if I've still got his card. Could be the same guy.

I liked llamas also. He had a 300U that he built a loader for. His own design, from scratch. Also a power steering system, again, his own design. I had a 300U also, so I emailed him back and forth a couple of times. I looked for his email a couple years back, but I couldn't find it, I've changed computers and op systems a couple of times. I started on here under another name, back in the mid 90's. I changed names 2x. Once, somebody got mad at me, and registered the name I was using. I noticed that I am getting facebook posts from Dave2 and Lyle!!!

The fellow I referred to was Johan Baker. I think he had written a few articles for Successful Farming under that name. As I recall, he did have a 300 U, as I do also. He did add an aire of respectability to this board.
