OT Still hate flying

I was supposed to leave Phoenix at noon, airplane had brake fluid leaking, now waiting until 5:00 for another airline.

In the 70's, I was on an airplane almost every day flying somewhere 40 weeks a year for my job, but I grew to hate airports! Of course, flying was a lot easier then than what travelers have to go through now.

Can't help but wonder why so many people are still flying? People have all kinds of alternatives now; ie: Internet, email, Skype, all kinds of phones, etc. Why put up with all the aggravation to fly somewhwere?

My wife and I fly to someplace every winter for vacation; usually the Caribbean, and I always dread the flight. However, there just ain't no better way to "get there from here" than by flying. In 4 hours or so we go from 10 above (or worse) to 80 degrees and a beautiful beach.
Now.....if I had to fly regularly for an employer I would hope I was high enuf up on the ladder to be flyin' first class. LOL

When we were working, we would fly out to the kids place to visit, now we're retired we drive. Sure get to see a lot more, and not in a hurry any more.

Better to find out about that brake fluid before you leave the runway or you could be meeting the next runway a bit faster!
Try another mode of transport? Not much good driving a car across a stretch of sea to get anywhere,, and have you ever had a bad experience on a boat???????

I am not a fan of commercial flights either. I was flying back from a meeting last week on Wednesday, the jet stream was moving across ILL and the plane was in such a chop that they had the stewardess' strap in and quit serving drinks. There was someone on another flight that was injured. All in all, it was a lot quicker than driving home.

One of these times I am going to buy a beater after the meeting and spend a couple days and a weekend driving home, seeing the sights and enjoying life from somewhere. Probably in the spring or fall though. Not the winter.

my sister used to work for an agency that specialized in travel to Hawaii. One time she was referred to a caller who wanted to take the train, as they didn't like to fly. My sister said trains don't go to Hawaii. The caller said "We took it last year". I wonder what she was smoking.
