cub starting problems

I bought a heavy-duty 6v battery for my '48 cub. It has started great until recently. I've tried to start it every other day and it would crank, but not fire. I resigned myself to replacing points, but decided to give it another try. It started on the first crank. I am puzzled. Haven't tried it since. This is the first winter in a long time the tractor has been in the barn and not in my garage with the cars. Any suggestions would be welcome..

Points get oxide on the contact surfaces. The oxide can provide insulation that prevents spark. Sometimes it self destructs and conducts electricity. Were it mine I would polish the points with 400 grit paper then pull a folded dollar bill through the closed points. Jim
